Artcher’s Dinosaur 1st Birthday Party

Description

We decided to throw a dinosaur themed party for my youngest son and have it at our favorite park. Artchie has a special dinosaur stuffed animal he loves to snuggle with and learned to make "ROAR" sounds like his big brother when playing with their dinosaur toys. It was an easy choice to make dinosaurs the running theme for his special first birthday.

Design Inspiration

I love to browse party blogs and I check out Project Nursery and Project Junior religiously for inspiration. Throwing parties for my boys is when I get to use my creative side.

Decorating Style

I try to incorporate a sophisticated touch to my children's parties, but keep it fun and interesting for the wee ones.

Project Details

Green Elephant Prints on Etsy for the happy birthday banner

http://www.paperlesspost.com   - invites (they do hard copies too)

http://www.michaels.com  - paper, cupcake wrappers, "tree stump" cake stand, arts and crafts supplies

http://www.orientaltrading.com - plastic dinosaurs, lolipops, dino sticker scenes, cardboard dinos to color

My husband and I did the large and small green wood dinosaur cut outs. We have a waterjet at our company and I snuck in some time to cut the dinosaurs. I painted them with chalkboard paint and let the kids color them and draw on them with chalk. They each took one home.

My husband and I made the cupcakes and cake. I made the tiny party hats for the dinosaurs on the cake.

My 7 year old Nephew did the dinosaur cookies!

My husband and I did turkey wraps and potato salad with a deli pickle and packed them in the paper lunch boxes. Each child got a PB & J with fruit snacks in their box. I used a dinosaur cookie cutter to cut each to look like a dinosaur. I created labels to identify what was in each box. I figured it was cleaner and easier to offer "lunch boxes" for each guest since we were in an outdoor setting and it had a picnic vibe.

I made the photo banner- paper was from Michaels

I made Burlap table cloths from a few yards of Burlap bought at Joanns Fabric. I used green table cloths from Target as a topper and added a white paper runner (a roll of paper from an art store).

Favorite Items

I loved the cake and tree stump cake stand. I love making the photo banners for my boys and hang it in their rooms after their first birthday parties. I liked how the "Arts and Crafts" table came out. The cut out wood dinosaurs where a huge hit and make the party unique.

Advice

Take a look around your house for items you can use for the party. A bunch of brown paper lunch bags can be recycled in so many ways etc. Plan way in advance to get the details together and take lots of time for set up! I ran out of time setting everything up and under estimated how long it takes to prepare. I know better for next time!
