Description
My husband and I love to travel so when we found out we were expecting a baby, we knew we wanted to do a travel themed nursery! Several of the furniture pieces are family heirlooms so we did a vintage travel themed nursery to embrace the antique furniture and travel decor. This room was designed by my husband and I and most of the projects were DIY including the pallet board wall, the barn door and the built-in bookshelf/seat.
Design Inspiration
My husband and I love to travel and have been all over the world in the 4 years of our marriage. It's really important that our children are exposed to different cultures and experiences through travel.
Decorating Style
A blend of contemporary, vintage and whimsical.
Project Details
Most of the projects were DIY including the pallet board wall, the barn door, and the built-in bookshelf/seat. Rifle Paper Company was the calendar that we used the prints for the pictures. The frames were from Target and Pottery Barn. The crib was a family heirloom that was refinished as was the dresser (Anthropologie knobs on the dresser). The pillows were all DIY. The glider was also a family antique. The white bookshelf is IKEA and the storage bins are from the container store. The zebra print cowhide rug is from Amazon.com. The globe was from a salvage shop.
Favorite Items
The sliding barndoor that hides our diaper genie and hamper. My husbands favorite is the pallet board wall.
Advice
Start early and collect images that inspire you. I have always loved travel so that part was easy but I also wanted to incorporate a chic and sophisticated look from the zebra print rug. This project took several months of brainstorming to create but we collected many images on pinterest and then figured out how we could combine all of the inspiration.

Love your nursery. I am doing a travel inspired theme as well. Where did you get the city prints?

[…] Used as wall art in this vintage travel themed nursery, the white washed barn door offers a great spot for a monogram – or another option would be to hang a personalized growth chart, like the Vintage Circus design, there. (Project Nursery) […]

This is so lovely. It will grow beautifully with you baby into childhood. You have beautiful taste and a great eye.
