Arggg! Captain John’s Nursery – NYC

Description

This lil pirate is 6 weeks old. Two walls had a pirate scene with cannonballs being launched and two walls had a treasure map. NYC always has interesting spaces to work with. I camouflaged the closet and made it part of the mural. Visually it enlarged the room. The furniture included the crib, changing table and a bookcase.

Design Inspiration

His parents!! I think they were pirates in a past life. They had wonderful ideas and really let me play with my own creativity. I've painted children's rooms in model homes for many years. This is a theme I'm very familiar with. Plus, I have a 3yr old nephew who thinks he's a pirate! Arggg!

Decorating Style

modern to traditional - It really depends on the theme and the fabrics.

Project Details

I always try to personalize my murals. The families really connect to that. There are many details added to this mural to personalize it. Including a banner with his name, a Pittsburgh Pirate, an island with the family name and a special bottle of wine.

Advice

The 2 walls were painted Sherwin Williams Iceberg blue. It helps to have a base color.

Nice pirate room. The murals really make the room look like it popped right out of a storybook. They transport you to a land of pirates, hidden treasures, ships, and lost islands.

Awesome!  I think the mural is truly amazing, and your are so very talented.  I am also a children's muralist, and I always appreciate seeing others' work from all over the country!  I love the map of where Captain John has been or plans to go. Your clouds over the ocean's horizon line are very well done as well!

I receive beautiful feed back from the parents as their children get older. They do interact with the murals. I try hard to recognize that as I paint and add little details as I go. I'm sure in time the pirates, turtles, crabs and whales will all have names. Lot's of pirate treasure stories will be told. It's wonderful to know my art will have an effect on a child's imagination. Thank you!

I am very sure that little John will appreciate this pirate room more and more as he grows older. Boys really do love pirates and it encourages them to use their imagination.
