Aqua, Navy and Yellow Nursery

Description

We created this aqua, yellow and navy nursery to be a calm, happy space for our sweet baby boy! My husband and I both poured our hearts into this little room, and I'm so happy with how it turned out! My husband installed crown molding and painted furniture, and I sewed/crafted various things (curtains, mobile, changing pad cover, lampshade, etc.) and picked out meaningful art pieces to go in the room. It's a nursery built with lots of love!

Oh, and we did it on a very small budget! :)

Design Inspiration

I've always loved this paint color (Valspar's "Distant Valley") because it's calming and serene while simultaneously happy and cheerful, so I used the paint color as a starting point. A Pinterest search of aqua nurseries led me to this nursery and this nursery and this nursery (all beautiful!).

Once we found out we were having a little boy, I really wanted to include some navy in the room (is there any color more classy and perfect for a little boy's room?), so I kind of meshed all of that together in my head and went from there!

Decorating Style

I'd say my style is traditional + sentimental + clean & simple. Some of the elements in this room are very traditional (the Jenny Lind crib, the rocking chair), but I love the serene, calming aspect of clean lines as well (like the dresser, bookshelf, and side table). The room is full of gifts from loved ones, and I think it's really special that our baby is literally surrounded by symbols of love.

Favorite Items

The cloud and stars mobile, even though I was VERY frustrated with it by the time I was done sewing it! I had a picture in my head of exactly what I wanted, and I couldn't find the exact right thing anywhere, so I made it myself and it turned out just how I pictured (except that I didn't actually finish it until my son was 6 months old! haha).
