Alister’s All-American Nursery

Description

We wanted a classic, all-american look for our baby boy's nursery!  The focal point is the painting of Alister's late grandfather as a child that hangs over his crib.

Design Inspiration

A boutique bed & breakfast in Nantucket where we stayed for our babymoon.

Decorating Style

Classic and transitional

Project Details

We wanted a room that would grow with our son versus being too babyish.  We invested in custom drapes in a pattern that I would use elsewhere in my house should he grow tired of them!  We found an antique dresser instead of buying one from a children's store because it also can transition into our home when he needs a bigger one. We loved pottery barn kids for the basics such as his crib, bedding, glider and ottoman.

Favorite Items

The portrait our talented friend painted of Alister's grandfather as a child that hangs above his crib.  He passed away before Alister was born, so this painting is very special and we hope it will always be in his room as he grows older.

We also love the 1930's teak dresser I found at an antique store.  I was immediately drawn to the drawer pulls!

Advice

Collect items that you love as you find them!  A few of the things I bought before I was pregnant, such as the "I am a child of God" print.  Another print I bought in New York from an artist in Central Park.  It feels more organic to collect items over time versus purchasing them all from one store.
