A Handmade Nursery

Description

This nursery was a labor of love! So many people had a hand in making this a beautiful place for our baby which is why I think it is so special. I wanted to create a space that was fun but also serene.

Design Inspiration

When we started to plan the nursery I wanted to be sure that it was filled with love. I thought the best way to do this was include items that were made with love.

We also wanted to be Eco-friendly so we painted with lo VOC paint, and reused items.

Project Details

My mother lovingly made the bedding and curtains from Nancy Mims Organic Cotton collection.

We wanted a dresser that would grow with her so we painted a dresser we found at a thrift store, replaced the knobs and added a changing pad.

The crib was a used one and the rocking chair borrowed from family, so we spent very little on furniture!

I made the bird mobile from fabric left over from the bedding and crocheted the bunting that is above her crib.

The beautiful painting with her name on it was created by a friend and fit perfectly with the colors.

The bookshelf was made by my husband and is filled with books from friends and classics from our childhood.

Favorite Items

I am not sure what my favorite item is, I just love the feel of the room, calm and playful all in one!

Advice

Start early if you want handmade items. As it got closer and closer to her coming I wanted to do less and less, so I was thankful that it was all completed.

If it's handmade, then it's always going to be beautiful in my book. That painting with Emma Rose's name on it is lovely, too.
