A Girl’s Safari

Description

Here is the nursery that my husband and I did for our daughter.  I picked the color before we even got pregnant thinking it could work for a boy or a girl.  I ordered the tree decals off Etsy and the two of us painstakingly glued them leaf-by-leaf to the walls.  Then I picked all the furniture and I thought a bright white would be best for the small space.  Once we found out it was a girl I was able to add all the girly touches and really pull the whole room together.  I think it came out even better than I imagined and I'm grateful to have such a handy husband to help with all the technical stuff.  I'm sure Lily will appreciate her ceiling fan, shelves and all the added storage in her closet for years to come!  :)

Design Inspiration

The beautiful spring green color I chose started the whole thing (I cried when it first went up though, because I was sure it was too bright, it definitely looked a lot better once we started filling up the room though).

Decorating Style

Classic clean lines with modern twists and neutral bases with pops of bold color.

Project Details

The trick to putting up decals on textured walls is glue stick!  We've never had a problem with peeling since putting the decals up and when it is time to take them down it won't be that hard to scrape them off.

Favorite Items

The butterfly and flower ceiling mobile above her changing table/dresser (sold at Amazon and Babies'R'Us).  It's so beautiful and grown-up, yet inviting for her to look at.  I think the gentle movement when there is some air flow in there is calming and gorgeous for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Advice

If the tree decals you choose are too short, you can just place them higher on the wall in area where you know a taller piece of furniture is going.  The tree behind our crib is actually the shorter of the two, but it seems like the larger one thanks to creative placement!  :)

Thanks! I'm not a designer obviously, just a regular person that wanted to make the nursery warm and inviting. My daughter is 16 months now and still loves looking at all the decals and the floating butterfly hanging. :)

That was actually a centerpiece from our wedding. They're sakura branches with pink and green paper cranes in a jar stuck in layers of pink and white sand.

That little plant (or baby tree) wall decal in the second photo looks rather awkward, but you know what, it really made me smile because it still looks cute.
