Owlive You!!

I found the sheets first and LOVED them but not the entire matching set.  Owls are so fun and different.  I wanted something fun and for a girl but not too girly!  I also wanted black furniture against a bright wall.  The room is not very big but the colors make it bigger and brighter.  We kind of mish mashed everything together from all different places and managed to stay on somewhat of a budget!  I am really happy with the way it turned out! I love it and so does my daughter!

Ellie Bea’s room

I wanted to create a room that would be comforting and soothing as a nursery, but also a modern room that Ellie could grow into and have fun transforming.  I mixed bold patterns (chevrons, stripes, ikat) and color with natural elements (birch) to provide some balance.  Elephants and owls perk up the nursery and keep it fun and whimsical. Before we even knew the gender, we started with the gray walls and then striped the ceiling in a beige/taupe.  I always knew yellow would be the other accent color, but when we found out we were having a girl, I added in plum for some girliness! We re-purposed the birch poles that we used to create our wedding chuppah and transformed them into the frame for the chalkboard wall.  The birch material and theme is also carried through in the mirror and wall decal. I wanted the wall ledges to mimic a gallery and I love that I can constantly transform the look by switching out the art, books and photos as Ellie grows. The changing table/dresser was a labor of love.  I saw a “before and after” post on Design Sponge, and I knew that I wanted to recreate this look for the changing table in the nursery.  We found the piece on Craig’s List and a friend helped create the chevron pattern.  It came out exactly like the inspiration photo!

Graeme’s “Whooo Gives a Hoot” Tree-themed Nursery

I designed this nursery for our first-born son, who arrived April 9, 2012. I chose to use Grey as a neutral backdrop with hits of turquoise, lime green and dark blue. The hard furnishings are not the ubiquitous “ebony” colour, so popular these days; instead I chose to reuse my own birch childhood furniture, and incorporate the birch colour in the rest of the room in the shelves and lighting fixtures. The room is quite small (10′ x 10′), so instead of overwhelming it with too much of the birch, I added elements of white in the crib, glider and shelf brackets. I was aiming for a relaxed version of Mid-Century, 1960’s-Era “modern” style (though the birch furniture is in fact from the 1970’s…).Photographs courtesy of Mike Day: “The Art of Wee Ones”, Toronto, ON, Canada (http://www.theartofweeones.com/aowo/home.php)

Rosalie’s Whimsical Owl DIY Nursery

My husband and I wanted a whimsical/animal themed nursery for our first baby. We love birds and are avid bird watchers. Our wedding was bird and nature themed. So when I found the Owl fabric on Fabric.com, I was in love and envisioned Rosalie’s nursery. The whole nursery was DIY, Project Nursery and Pinterest inspired. I wanted it to be personal and not trendy but unique!

Gray, Owls, and Chevron!

I wanted a nursery that was “out of the box”.  I wanted something completely original and something that my husband and I created together.  Thank goodness he is so handy.  He built the raised panel wanes coating and put in the rustic wood floors all by himself.  He also built the closet and the book shelves.  I created custom curtains by using the leftover paint from the closet project and also painted all of the pictures frames to coordinate with our color scheme.  I found a lot of amazing details on Etsy.

Twin Munchkin Nursery

I wanted a happy, fun and neutral room for our soon-to-be born twins. The bright orange color on the feature wall makes me smile every time I walk into the room. Dad and grandpa painted the room a few months ago, and the rest of the nursery came together slowly since then.  All the furniture is neutral-black, white or grey, and other than the cribs, can be used in other rooms in our house once the twins are older. The biggest splurge was the chair. I opted not to go for a rocker/glider, so that we can use it in our basement family room later. Also, the chair is big and deep enough for me to doze in since there was no room for a day bed in this small room.
