I love this room!! It was sooooo much fun! It was my goal to see how much money I didn’t have to spend, what I could make myself and what I could use that I already had.  It was a blast…..and of course my husband was thrilled that I didn’t spend a ton of money!!  I wanted it to be modern but have some vintage items in the mix. My two favorite things are the wall with the open frames(all of which I had at home that weren’t being used except for the the circle green one and I payed $4.00 on clearance) and the name above his bed.  I painted each one by hand….they were all blank canvas when I started! I encourage anyone to see what they can do on their own…if they have the time.  There are soooo many resources out there to use as a guide for doing things yourself!! :)

We had to start by purchasing the basics with gender neutrality in mind, but when we came home with Penelope, it was exciting to start adding in the details that would make the nursery perfect for a little girl.

Since we only had one room to work with, I wanted neutral colors that would work for both 5 yrs old boy & a baby girl. I like bright colors, & to be honest I don’t like traditional boy/girl colors that you see often. I wanted something bright & fun for both genders. And I wanted to stay away from too baby-ish looking room…

Our project is a little boys nursery for our lovely son Ben. We wanted something that would work well with the rest of our interior, and something that would grow with Ben for the first few years.  The entire project can be read about on our blog The A&B Stories

Classic, traditional, homespun and vintage inspired space. Soothing, soft colors drape everything in sight. Although I love bright, vibrant colors, I decided there will be plenty of time for that later.

A gender-neutral “Sunset in the Forest” themed nursery.

I wanted to design a gender neutral nursery for our soon-to-be first baby that was light and airy. We wanted a room that the child could grow into without feeling like we had to redesign in a couple years.

We waited 7 months (on my bday) to find out the gender. We knew we loved grey and green, but would use an accent color of lavender for a girl or turquoise for a boy. We ended up using brown

I wanted a modern, fun, memorable nursery that would grow with my son. I tried rearranging the furniture so many times! Finally, I found the best placement that allows room to play and showcases all of London’s toys and furniture.

Not knowing the gender of our baby while pregnant, (we had a girl) I wanted to put together a gender neutral nursery. I also knew I wanted to incorporate birds as part of the theme. We have a small house, so this bedroom will be used for multiple children, which I had to keep in mind. (We’ll be getting creative with space and adding other pieces of furniture later). Originally, I was going for a more modern look, but it turned out looking much more whimsical. What can I say, I’m a sucker for TWALL! Combined with the birds and the white furniture, the outcome was more traditional. My inspiration is from an assortment of fabrics, including the brown and white patchwork quilt used for crib bedding and an various teal and orange fabrics from JoAnn. My mother in law created the bird mobile from all of the fabrics. The crib and changing table were both given to us used (changing table found by my sister in law on Freecycle). The crib was originally a pine finish and the changing table was oak with forest green accents. We stripped and spray painted both white. The side table is from Ikea and the overstuffed glider (lots of use in the last few weeks) is from Babies R Us. The wall arrangement above the crib is made up of white frames from Ikea, vintage alphabet cards from Etsy, plates from the thrift store, and canvases covered with my inspiration fabrics. The shelf above the changing table is from Ikea. The lamp was a Home Goods find. The bird picture below the Ikea shelf was found at Bed Bath and Beyond. The hooks and curtains are also Ikea.
