Colorful

We threw a birthday party for our three-year-old boy/girl twins at our home in June. We had food and drinks inside and a huge “castle” made out of cardboard boxes outside for the kids. The party was very casual and unstructured; people went in and out as they pleased, we opened presents at one point and then let all of the kids play with all of the toys, and we had a bunch of cupcakes (that people ate whenever they wanted) instead of a formal cake.

We wanted an airy, bright and happy space for our second daughter. A very simple yet decorated room that is cozy, warm and whimsical. 

Mom & Dad weren’t afraid of a nursery that incorporated color and lots of it! They were inspired by the pretty hues of cotton candy to create a bright, modern and not too serious space for their little girl.

We started this large room from scratch and wanted it to be just perfect for our little one!  We took our time, finding pieces and decor that meant something to us (with our tight budget in mind).  There are still some blank walls and floor space that we’ll fill as Baby T. shows us his/her personality.  For now, we hope Baby T. loves it as much as Mommy and Daddy do!

The best piece of advice to starting your nursery is to start with something you love. It may be a stuffed animal as was our case, or a cherished family heirloom, or maybe even crib bedding you HAVE to have.

A modern + girly Curious George inspired 3rd Birthday party for my Curious Cami!

With our second baby due soon, it was time to move our 2 year old out of his crib and into a big boy bed. So, I decided it was time for a whole new big boy room too!! 

For our son’s room, we wanted something more than just a nursery. The room is rather large, so we made it more of a child’s room with a play area that he could grow up in, not immediately grow out of.

My husband and I decided to do an airplane themed nursery since he is a pilot.  I wanted to keep it colorful and modern.  We were on a budget and proud that the project came in under $800, including all the furniture.  We rent, so we had to keep the walls their original color, but added as many pops of color as possible to brighten the room up.

We always love celebrating our children’s birthdays and making them feel special.  For Brody’s 1st birthday, we wanted a colorful and cheerful and fun environment for our very fun little man.  We wanted everything to be about him.  He isn’t old enough to choose a favorite color yet so we just picked the brightest and happiest colors we could since he is just the happiest little boy.  

Evyn’s nursery began with a white base of furniture and walls.  I layered in bright colors and pops of black to create the colorful cottage style. 

We live on a U.S. Naval Base in Japan.  Since we rent our home, the walls had to remain white, but I wanted the nursery/guest bedroom to feel very warm.  It is a dual purpose room, so the decor needed to work for a sweet baby girl and for long term guests (people don’t come to Japan for just a weekend :).

Inspired by Skip Hop’s Mod Dot bedding, I decorated the room around this fun and bright print.

I wanted a nursery with gray walls, white furniture, and lots of pops of color!

I wanted to create a very colorful room for our baby girl, since I’m a designer and love the theory of colour and how it affects our personality, I thought I would give it a try and see if happy colors equal happy little girl!

Turquoise, Yellow, Green and Orange create a fun and comfy gender neutral space.  

Our almost-two-year-old always loved coloring so an art party was the perfect theme for her birthday party. It was such an easy theme since we used every color of the rainbow for decorations. This was a very budget-friendly event with a bunch of “big bang for your buck” DIY projects.
