Navy and Green Nursery

When we found out we were expecting our second son, I immediately started brainstorming. Out of necessity, the nursery would be a shared space with our guest bedroom, so I knew I wanted a color scheme that would work well for both areas. We chose a neutral paint color and went with navy and pink for the guest room part and navy and green for the nursery area. The whole room was done on a major budget, so many of the items, including the pennant banner, striped accent wall, throw pillow, and Jesus Loves Me print, are DIY projects. One of my favorite pieces is the brothers print from Nella Designs, which still hangs in our sons’ shared room today. (This is our son’s nursery from May 2012.)  We are now expecting our third child, a little girl, in November! I’m currently working on her nursery and enjoying being able to break out the pinks, purples, and florals!!

Anders’ Eclectic Nursery with a Blend of DIY and Vintage

A lot of parents try and go for a theme in their nursery and my husband was no different – he wanted the muppets. Well after a lot of discussion I convinced him to trust me on my design and he is very glad that he did. I didn’t want a themed room or a “baby” room. I love designing rooms that will easily transition from birth to teens and the character of the room can easily be updated with ever changing interests. There is only one window in the room so I went with a soft creamy white and to add some drama a navy blue striped wall – I love that the stripes all vary in size – and then we added one green stripe that extends all the way around the room.
I love all things vintage and refurbishing furniture. The dresser was perfect because it belonged to my uncles 70 years ago and then my brother and now my son. It’s from Ethan Allen and in great shape. I stripped the stain off of it and re-stained it navy blue and added vintage looking water faucet knobs from Hobby Lobby. The rocking chair is also a refurbished piece that a friend did for me. I continued with the blue and green theme with the curtains and fabric on the rocking chair. Feeling like a needed a little pop of color, we added the vintage lantern lamp in red, an old red trunk and a abacus for a touch of yellow. All vintage pieces that fit so well with the room. The shelves were a DIY project that my husband installed based off of some inspiration photos I found on Pinterest. I love how they add a slight rustic/industrial feel. My Husband got his Muppets with some contemporary prints that my sister created for us (she’s a very talented graphic designer and amazing photographer)! The art above the crib was another DIY project. We found an old map of the world, I bought some wooden letters from Michaels, painted them red, glued them onto the map and my Husband built a frame for it. We do a lot of reading with our son so the shelves are littered with books. The toy boxes and the whale rocker are my designs that my husband makes come to life (I’m so lucky!). And the changing table was an amazing space saver and an easy project. My husband again built the base and then installed drawer hinges from Lowes and it will hold up to 100 lbs. It has been great! Really, the only thing that was new was the crib. Everything else was refurbished or custom designed and built by my husband and I.

Toby’s Blue Nursery with Orange and Green Accents

Before I was pregnant with our son this room was a boring neutral wall colored spare room which lacked personality and style and was very uninspiring. So when I became pregnant with our son I looked forward to designing and decorating his bedroom and gathered many ideas for baby nurseries off the net. One of my favorite sites for ideas was and still is project nursery. When we found out we were having a boy at our 20 week scan I then narrowed down our color of choice for his walls to be aqua with blue, green and orange accessories. I designed his room around these colors. I wanted to create  a room for Toby that was not to babyish and will grow with him. I am not a big fan of themed rooms so stayed cleared of these. The baby bedding I had bought before I was pregnant with our first child a daughter called Katelyn and cause she was a girl I did not use this bedding in her room. But found it worked perfectly with the wall color I had chose for Toby’s room. The wall color I choose was Resene Foam and my Dad kindly painted the room for us before Toby was born. I found the aqua wall color to be a great base color; in which works easily with accessories  and it makes the accessories pop. I found choosing the wall color was a great starting point when designing the room and then I based the accessories, bedding and curtains etc to work with it.

Where the Wild Things Are Nursery

I have always loved the book “Where the Wild Things Are” so when I found out I was having a boy I knew I wanted to theme the nursery after one of my favorite books. Once I started planning the room out I knew I did not want to the room to be to theme orientated, I wanted a subtle hint of the book. The first thing I chose was the navy blue crib which inspired the built in book shelves and the rest of the color scheme. I also knew I wanted one wall with wall paper and I thought the birch wood look made the room feels cozy and woodsy which was perfect for my theme! For the last details of the rooms I wanted a pop of color so I chose yellow to brighten up the room a little bit.

Park’s Place Baby Boy Nursery

I’m so excited to share my nursery with you! For my first baby boy I designed an all white nursery. I loved everything about it, but knew I wanted my second son to have his own feel. After a long time (2 years in fact) of trying to decide the direction I wanted to go with it, I finally made a decision and am so happy with the outcome. Since he is older now I didn’t want anything too young feeling and hoped to have something that will easily transition as he grows.
I knew I wanted to keep the tone on tone stripe walls, crib, pendant light, and chair from the first room. Everything else is a combination of new and things I already had. I needed a dresser and knew I wanted a mid-century. This one is a Bassett that I happened upon, after months of endless searching. I’ve always loved putting this little man in black, and after I found the awesome rug, I knew I had a great beginning and exactly where I wanted to go. My 16 year old self would die at the brown and black combo. ;) I knew I needed a little more color. As I debated I turned to my closet and felt denim would add the perfect touch. Since the room is smaller I was thrilled at the idea of a hanging plant, instead of one on the floor. I was real with myself and went faux with my DIY project and I’m so in love with that hanging fern!
There were times when Pinterest got the better of me and I thought I should add this or that, but knew it wasn’t true to my style. My advice would be to make sure you stay true to your style, even if something else is trendy. Be patient while searching, try new things, but most of all make sure it’s something you love!
This room is a perfect reflection of my son and I. I hope you like it! Thanks for letting me share it with you!

Baby Boy’s Woodland Adventure Nursery

My husband and I celebrated our first honeymoon and his 29th birthday with a trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, last spring.  We spent 5 days exploring the wilderness and going on adventure tours to scope out animals.  Fast forward 8 months…we found out we were expecting and went to Home Goods for a fun celebration trip and to possibly purchase something for the baby.
We ended up looking at the decorating section of the store and decided to each pick out a focal point print for the room, his if it was a boy, mine if it was a girl.  He chose a moose (inspired by Jackson Hole) and I chose an elephant (I have always wanted a safari themed nursery).  The news came that we are having a boy and the moose print he picked became the inspiration.
I don’t decorate a ton but when I do, it’s a slow process.  I purchase things one at a time and figure everything out gradually.  My goal was to first get the furniture in the room and keep it very neutral with all grays and whites.  After that, I would hang artwork, decor, that could be swapped out for my future safari nursery.  Also, I wanted items that could be used again and would not be nursery exclusive.
As I mentioned we first bought the moose print as our inspiration piece.  We then picked out the color of paint for the walls, painted them…then came the furniture, one piece at a time.  The rug, then crib, then dresser, then chair, all staying primarily white and gray.  Then I found the pouf (for a little color) and the gray roller cart.  After that came the adorable baby animal prints, masks, and lastly the quote on the wall.
I had a million screenshots saved in my phone of different potential items but most ended up getting deleted along the way because it wouldn’t end up matching after I saw what the rug looked like, or what the baby animal prints looked like.
Furniture first.  Then artwork!

Soothing Woodland Nursery

Hello,
We were so excited to have as a second child a sweet baby boy! First, I really wanted to re-use all the main furniture as dresser, crib, chair, floor lamp from our previous girl nursery, so we got to changes  only few accessories, the blackout fabrics, the  bedding and some art frames. And the wall paint color was already a big transformation. When we bought the house, it was a two bedrooms home, so we decided to add a third bedroom as the nursery, knowing we were expecting a boy I right away wanted a wall wainscoting look We wanted a soothing nursery theme, which for me come with some soft green, orange, and cream and grey combo.
Enjoy!

Chase’s Urban Cabin Nursery

When we started designing Chase’s nursery, our main theme was “moose”.  We wanted it to feel cozy and have cabin elements without being too “hunting/fishing”-y.  We incorporated lots of masculine touches with dark metal finishes on shelves, fixtures and even the crib itself.  I used a plaid burlap fabric with red and brown hues for the valances, wall art, and accent pillows to warm up the space.  Finally we found this amazing rustic wood dresser and nightstand that also added warmth but tied in with the metals through the knobs.  #rustic #industrial #urban #cabin #plaid

Baby Elsborg’s Woodland Adventures Nursery

We are so excited to have our first baby boy this October and wanted to design a nursery that brought nature/mountains/woods to life. My parents were in town for two weeks and with their help, we were able to transform the entire room into a Woodland Adventure!
The inspiration for the nursery theme came from a recent ski trip to Breckenridge, Colorado and I knew I wanted to incorporate the mountains into the design of the nursery. I started by putting together a Pinterest board with pictures and ideas I liked and then started to see if there was a common theme. After building out the Pinterest board, I slowly got rid of “pins” that wouldn’t work well together or clashed with the theme. The room 11′ x 13′ started with beige walls and the current carpet, and we completed projects based on biggest design impact (mountain wall) to smallest (stuffed animals).
Hope y’all enjoy!

Contemporary Woodland Forest Nursery

Picking a nursery theme that can transition to a more mature room was tricky! We wanted a very sleek and contemporary design that was still appropriate for our son’s room, so we decided on a woodland forest theme. We wanted to invest in nicer pieces, so that meant simple and classic furniture selections. The aspen forest wallpaper was the perfect solution, as it gave us the contemporary vibe we sought, as well as a theme we could further execute with less expensive additions. The colorful frog artwork provided a youthful feel, but could easily be changed out later as our son’s tastes and personal preferences emerge! The ultra-soft white shag rug was a play on snow, but also made of easy to clean fibers in case of accidents. Baby’s birthstone is aquamarine, which also happened to be mom’s favorite color, so our palette was the obvious choice! My favorite part of this design is the real aspen trees we clustered in the corner. We mounted them through the ceiling by drilling holes down through the tops from the attic to ensure they were sturdy and safe! Pulling together our woodland theme was so much fun, and now it has become a comfortable space for the three of us to spend time together!

A Neutral Baby Boy Nursery

As a first time mom, I had high hopes for this nursery. My husband loves design, so we planned everything together. We wanted to keep this room super simple, and I didn’t really want any type of “theme” — That’s not really our style! I knew from the beginning that I wanted lots of neutral colors and I wanted the room to be calming. I think we achieved that! I love going into Beckham’s nursery at night when it’s dark and turning the lamps on…I do it often, just becauseI love it! It is so peaceful! This nursery is everything I dreamed of for our first baby!

Levi’s DIY Nursery

We really wanted handmade personal touches for Levi’s nursery. Everything from the wood pallet wall, peg board changing area organizer, vertical hanging wood name/letters, to the toy bin bookshelf, and even down to the shiplap open concept closet area was hand crafted! It was amazing to watch this room transform into the perfect space for our baby boy. I had a vision, and my husband brought it to life.

Adventurer’s Dream Nursery

I started this project because I never had a chance to design a room for Hudson since we moved two weeks after he was born and now we live in a place that doesn’t have any shopping and is nearly impossible to get furniture shipped in. But thanks to the help from several beautiful companies we were able to make his room come to life! I was inspired by my son’s need for adventure. He always wants to explore new things and is eager to learn so I wanted to create a room for him that stimulated his growing brain. The goal was to include as many shapes and letters as possible with a little splash of color.
It was a bit difficult not being able to see the products in person before committing to them (shipping here isn’t easy so I didn’t even want to think about returns) but amongst all of the craziness my interior design skills blossomed and I created a room I will forever be obsessed with. I was very patient with my choices and I think that had a lot to do with it’s success. It took about two months total to complete the room but a lot of that was spent waiting for products to arrive. The crib and wallpaper were the first two pieces to arrive which was super encouraging because they both looked fantastic together! Everything else was added as it came and eventually we got this finished masterpiece ;)
My husband built the frames, shelves and dresser which sparked an idea and lead us to deciding we wanted to start our own wood shop so stay tuned for that! I also DIYed the black felt bunting banner that is hanging next to his dresser. I’m not the best DIYer but I am really happy with how it turned out. I mean, it wasn’t very complicated or anything but still I’m very proud haha!
If I were to give anybody tips or advice on creating a space for their children I would say get your inspiration from watching them. It was the best feeling ever watching Hudsons eyes light up when he walked into his finished room. I can tell he absolutely loves it. Also, be patient. Don’t try to rush it! I was on a bit of a schedule so I ordered everything as quickly as possible once I decided on what I wanted but otherwise I would have taken my time and slowly added pieces that I found overtime. It doesn’t have to be perfect right away.

Simon’s Neutral Woodland Inspired Nursery

I never cared much about interior design or decorating when my first two kiddies were born so we just chose some furniture and a bedding set and called it good. When I found out I was pregnant with Simon, I knew I wanted to start with a clean slate to decorate his nursery. We sold the dark cherry baby furniture we used previously and I started pinning and keeping my eye out for good deals I could incorporate into Simon’s nursery. We didn’t find out the gender while I was pregnant because we wanted to be surprised so I knew I was going to decorate with a neutral color palette with a little pop of color. My main inspiration was a woodland fabric from Birch Fabrics that is cream and grey with pops of color from darling little woodland creatures. I also knew I wanted a Jenny Lind style crib and I got one for free at a garage sale and painted it white. The chair was also free and I reupholstered it in cream fabric and I bought a rocking, swivel base to turn it into a rocker. The dresser was a $25 craigslist find that I painted white. The bookshelf was something I already had. It was black and I painted it white also. The end table and lamp are both goodwill finds, both of which I painted. I built the book ledges out of scrap pallet wood and painted those white as well. I got the tree slice from the craft store and painted it with chalkboard paint and added the scripture (I did the typography in photoshop) by wax paper transfer then went over it with a paint pen. I made the name banner by printing letters on iron on transfer and ironing them on my fabric. I got the antlers at hobby lobby and spray painted them. The blanket hanging over the back of the rocker is one that my grandma (she passed away when I was 15) made for my aunt when she was pregnant and when I found out I was pregnant with my first, she sent it to me as a gift. It is very special to us. The pillow was made by her as well. The fox fabric bin is from target. I got the photo frame and clock at Ikea. The stuffed animals were gifts and the baskets and hamper I purchased at Meijer. There are a few more things I’d like to do, like change out the light fixture and put in hardwoods but I knew if I waited until it was “perfect” I’d never share my project. Thanks for looking!

Ethan’s Horse and Hound Nursery

My husband David and I welcomed a little boy in August of 2016. I like to decorate rooms in a tasteful, yet cozy manner, and the baby room was no exception! We chose to go with a “Horse and Hound” theme. My husband is an outdoors enthusiast, and one of his hobbies is finding quail on horseback with our English Pointers. We love our dogs Molly, Huxley, and Bee, and our horse Clyde…so voila, a theme was born!
I approached the nursery like I do most projects… research, reviews, and inspirational photos (cue Pinterest, Instagram, and Project Nursery galleries). I then put together a design board using the Morpholio app on my phone. While the design evolved as the project progressed, the design board helped me to stay on track with my vision. We opted for a calming, light gray on the walls. I decided to add a little whimsy by painting some metallic gold brush strokes for a feature. It was a risk that I was scared to take, but I am so glad I went for it! I am a big fan of contrast, so I went for a bolder look with the vintage inspired black iron crib and some fun gray and white striped linens.
My favorite thing about the nursery is the crib wall and his little library. The “Velveteen Rabbit” quote above the crib was the reading we chose at our wedding, and I find the message unbelievably heartfelt. The teddy bear in the crib was baby’s first gift, and it came from none other than Daddy himself. The library made me think of my own favorite childhood books. I love snuggling in the rocker with my baby, and reading to him. We are going to have a lot of fun making precious memories in here!

Vintage Rugged Nursery with Hints of Plaid

For my first-born son’s nursery, I wanted a soft masculine feel with hints of the outdoors.  We chose a stained gray crib and dresser that have a subtle chevron pattern.  Wooden plaques holding metal initials and burlap curtains add to the rugged feel. Hints of plaid and splashes of red liven up the space.  The gallery wall above the dresser includes canvas woodland animal prints and some of our favorite quotes.  A child-sized fuzzy chair in one corner, comfortable glider in the other, and a wooden crate of stuffed animals on the floor make the room cozy and inviting for our little one.  Lots of toys and books fill the bookcase, and the metal chandelier adds a hint of the industrial.  We are so excited to watch our son grow in this special room!

Navy Kansas City Nursery

We originally were using the “Oh The Places You Will Go” theme, but we kept finding local Kansas City maps and materials we wanted to incorporate into the room (including the map mural of Kansas City), and we thought – “Our kid really isn’t going far in life!” SO, someone suggested we change it to “The Places You’ll Go, but Remember Your Roots” and that sounded good to me. It’s a mix of Kansas City and travel materials.
This is our second child, and after designing our first nursery, I started to fall in love with the Navy/White color scheme. I knew I wanted to use it for this project. A lot of the items in the room are DIY, but inspired by items I found on the web. I liked the idea of putting my blood, sweat and tears into every element in the room, and really tried to make as many of the items as I could.
The dresser was a 6-week project that my dad and I tackled to complete strip and stain. It was a hideous bright blue before. The crib is from a Project Nursery contest that I won (THANK YOU NEWPORT COTTAGES!), and I was amazed how close we were able to get the dresser to match the color of the crib.
The Peter Pan painting was a DIY project, but inspired by an Etsy artist (link to Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/198639510/peter-pan-little-ones-aedriel). The map painting above the crib was a DIY project (letters purchased from Etsy). Same with the nautical maps – those are hand cut on scrapbooking paper, but they were inspired by an Etsy artist (link to artist page: https://www.etsy.com/listing/255418479/bermuda-original-8-x-10-papercut-art-in?ref=hp_rf). The paper airplane mobile is a DIY project inspired by an item at Pottery Barn Kids.
I hope you enjoy it! Thank you to the wonderful Briana Gray with The Grays Photography (https://www.facebook.com/thegraysphotography)
