Sylas’s DIY ‘Sock Monkey’ 1st Birthday Party
For Sylas’s First Birthday, I created a DIY Sock Monkey Themed Party.

Our baby turned 1 on June 25th and I, of course, went all out for the celebration! My husband and I already owned a collection of red partyware so I decided that red had to be incorporated into his party. The whale inspiration came from a Pottery Barn Kids bedding collection that we almost selected for his nursery. The stripe, gingham and polka dot patterns were inspired by a pennant bunting I saw on Etsy and many of the other details were inspired by ideas I found while poking around Pinterest! {photo credit – Simply Mella Photography}
My daughter came up with a brilliant theme for her 3rd birthday–sprinkles! As soon as I heard it, my mind started racing. So Much FUN! Sprinkles were everywhere–in the decor, in the flower vases, and certainly in the food.
A small gathering to celebrate the first year of this wonderful little boys life. It seemed like he had been through so much with surgery to correct a stomach disorder at only 4 weeks of age so we wanted to make the day extra special.
A pinwheel themed second birthday party. The main colors were pink and aqua, with accents of white and yellow.
When I learned that you could rent out space for parties at the Flight museum I was so excited! Ryan loves anything to do with planes so I knew it was a perfect venue. There are two party areas to chose from and I chose the hangar area because there was more natural light and the clouds on the walls worked perfectly with our decorations!
Sesame Street first birthday party.
For Sadies first birthday we decided to do a wonderland theme because shes a very curious little girl.
My boy is obsessed with cars. Not the movie, not NASCAR, but top of the line, exotic cars which he calls “race cars”! He literally can name any brand of vehicle there is, even I can’t believe it sometimes. So since he loves his Hot Wheels, I envisioned a “race car” themed party featuring only one type of car, — a Porsche — along with my favorite color combo and chevron pattern.
Three years ago, on my 27th birthday, I recieved the best gift ever when my little girl Annabelle was born! When I realized we both had a big milestone birthday this year I knew it had to be special..so we decided to throw a 3 & 30 party to celebrate with our family and friends
We had a Cinderella party for our little princess as she turned three. I enjoy collecting items for the party and making as many of the decorations as I can as a special touch. We had the girls dress up as princesses and made pillowcase knight costumes for the boys.
We wanted a fun circus party for our son and his friends and family. We tried to stick to our color-scheme as much as possible (aqua, red and splashes of yellow), as we wanted a more summery blue than traditional circus blue. All circus favorites were present: cotton candy, popcorn, balloons and carnival games!
This year for our sweet Addie’s birthday, a Muddy Puddles party with Peppa Pig was a MUST. This little girl is OBSESSED. Have you ever seen this little gem of a show? Simply darling! Because it is a British show, anything Peppa Pig is nearly impossible to come by here in the U.S., so I decided to make it a celebration of muddy puddles–one of the Pig family’s favorite activities! Guests could step in “muddy puddles” made from kraft paper as they walked to the door, don a pair of rain boots and step on in!
I wanted Owen’s first birthday to be unique and special, while using as little money as possible. My goal was to decorate with things I already had in the house, buying only a few basic necessities. The result was a very simple, handmade party… nothing extravagant or expensive, just a sweet little celebration of our baby’s first year.
We held Liesl’s 2nd birthday at the historic Carousel at Santa Monica Pier. It is one of the few surviving all-wooden Carousels still in existence today and its charm & vintage beauty is so inherent. Ever since Liesl rode The Carousel a few months prior to her party, she couldn’t stop talking about the “horses”, so I knew this would be the perfect venue to host her 2nd birthday!
I planned and designed a birthday party to celebrate my son’s 1st Birthday! Having a love for event decor, I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a hands-on project.
I couldn’t decide between Dora and Elmo for my daughter’s 2nd birthday party and then my husband had a great suggestion: why not do both?
A Trifecta Birthday Celebration!
We always love celebrating our children’s birthdays and making them feel special. For Brody’s 1st birthday, we wanted a colorful and cheerful and fun environment for our very fun little man. We wanted everything to be about him. He isn’t old enough to choose a favorite color yet so we just picked the brightest and happiest colors we could since he is just the happiest little boy.
Ella loves Elmo and I wanted her to enjoy her birthday party more this year thank she did her first birthday, so I decided to run with the little red monster theme. We had an Elmo performer (her dad), Elmo cakes pops and even a red carpet for guests to have their photo taken on; each family got a professional photo as the party favor. I also set up a craft table with some tactile and sensory activities for the really young kids (we had kids from 6-mos-6-years attending).
