Charlie’s Pink and Orange Modern Nursery

When we found out we were having a girl, I knew I didn’t want a super feminine room. I’m a big fan of modern design and “frilly” isn’t my style.  I liked the idea of including a lot of color in her room, so I chose to focus on orange, pink and red. My mom and I DIY’d almost everything in the room – it was a labor of love and I’m thrilled with how it turned out!

Colorful, Gender Neutral Nursery

We wanted to have a gender neutral nursery since we did not find out the sex of our baby before birth. However, we also wanted to have something colorful – going beyond your standard beiges, greens and yellows. We found this to be very hard to find examples of that didn’t skew too much boy or girl. Then I saw the Skip Hop bedding and knew it was the perfect color palette for our colorful nursery. We used a slightly lighter shade of the blue found in the bedding as the wall color. We love blue for boys or girls. To balance out the intensity of the blue, we opted for a significant amount of white in the rest of the room to keep a bright, light feel.

Neutral Nursery with Pops of Color

After over a year of trying to conceive and despising the spare room we found out we were pregnant on a month that beat out all scientific odds. Once we passed the first trimester mark we got to work (my husband and I). We knew we wanted a neutral basis for the room with pops of color so we purchased/DIY-ed all the neutral pieces before we found out Baby’s gender. When we found out that we were expecting a baby girl I looked at fabric sample after fabric sample until we decided on a peachy/pink and buttery yellow for the accents in the room. We couldn’t be more pleased with our work and the outcome!

Boy or Girl?

I designed this nursery for my sister and brother in law’s baby. They aren’t finding out the sex of their baby so it had to be gender neutral. I didn’t want it to have a typical gender neutral color scheme so I chose yellow, turquoise, grey and white for a fresh palette. Their budget was incredibly tight so I found old pieces of furniture and refinished them. Only the crib and rocking chair is new. Some items from my brother in law’s childhood were incorporated into the design for a more meaningful touch. We took out the doors to the closet to open up the space. The inside already had the blue and white wallpaper. Due to time and budget, we decided to just keep it. Luckily it kind of goes with the color palette!

Alphabet City

Today’s Real Room makes Melisa and I two proud bloggers. The parents-to-be came across an alphabet themed wall from one of our past Real Room posts and it proved to be the inspiration they needed when designing their unborn baby’s nursery. They are waiting to find out the baby’s gender (so fun!), who is due on Mom’s birthday (double fun!) and wanted to be sure the nursery was filled with vibrant energy. I have to say I absolutely love what they did with the lime green dresser, its given me a bit of inspiration to update my daughter’s nursery furniture to make it new again. Welcome to Alphabet City!

Griffin’s Cafe Au Lait

A fresh coat of paint is my absolute favorite way to not only update a room but to add a little drama. Sarah, mother to three-month old Griffin, must agree. By painting the room a warm shade of cafe-au-lait, she created a rich backdrop for an elegant and sophisticated nursery. Inspired by Dwell’s Circles crib bedding, Sarah used a few old pieces from other rooms in the house alongside the new crib, glider and rug to get a clean and eclectic feel. Other finishing touches include a bookshelf made by Griffin’s grandfather and vintage family photos in crisp white frames. The alphabet cards positioned above the crib add just the right touch of modern. Read on for more details.
