poms in baby room ohdeedoh

Happy Spring! Kim from The TomKat Studio here, reporting on one of my favorite things.....tissue paper pom poms! Being the party girl I am, they are a staple for most events I work on. However, I've noticed a trend of them being used not only for parties and weddings, but to decorate rooms, most often nurseries. I thought I share a few photos I've been collecting of poms used in home decorating, along with a few of my favorite party pom images! {via ohdeedoh} {via likely design} {via Life in the Fun Lane} {via ohdeedoh} {lily pulitzer poms via traylor papers} {via martha stewart} {via tomkat studio customer} {via likely design} {via tomkat studio customer, erin volante floral} {via tomkat studio customer} My favorite sources for Poms: Pom Love on Etsy Martha Stewart Traylor Papers or DIY! I will be hosting a giveaway for a set of 5 poms from POM LOVE next week, over at  The TomKat Studio! Come on over and join the party!

Wee Gallery Birdie Banner

What's black and white and read all over by your newborn? Answer: Blik's Wee Gallery. When designers Dave and Surya learned that newborns could only see 12-15 inches away in black and white, they came up with the genius idea to develop clever little black and white wall decals so even a young baby could enjoy the art in their room. Their wildly popular designs add a contemporary edge to nursery design and their knack for staying on top of the trends has them rolling out a hip new wall graphic: The Wee Gallery Birdie Banner. An awesome value at only $38, the Birdie Banner comes with 100 pieces to help create your design. Banners are a HUGE hit this year providing parents yet another way to boldly display their child's name across the wall. Going the decal route adds a modern twist to compliment any style of room as opposed to traditional flag bunting. And there's a reason why Blik calls the installation process a "cakewalk": Their "Re-stik" technology allows you to reposition the decal over and over until you get it just right! That's a relief. We're loving Wee Gallery and we know 15 of our readers will be too starting  next week. Blik is generously giving away 5 Birdie Banners and 10 of their top selling designs: The Wee Gallery Elephant and Wee Gallery Giraffe wall graphics. WIN IT: By commenting on this post with your very  favorite Blik wall decal (Warning: there are a ton of great ones to choose from) AND which …

Party Favor Box (PN)

I have had the pleasure of working with Melisa from Project Nursery on her son's 3rd birthday party the last few weeks.  She came to me with a big request: plan a party that her son, Austin, will think is a "Thomas the Train" party....but without the cartoon-y look, something more modern, that would appeal to the designer in her.  After weeks of collaboration - I think we have done just that!  Today, I am showing you the inspiration for the party - the virtual party planning that has taken place, if you will.  Melisa will be following up with pictures from the party in the next couple of weeks - showing you exactly how she took my inspiration and brought it to life! The images I am showing you today come directly from the custom party plan I did for Melisa.  If you are interested in having WH Hostess plan your next party, check out our website for more information! As I mentioned above, Thomas the Train was the main inspiration for this party.  Austin is turning 3 years old, and I wanted to create a party that visually appeals to both the toddlers and their parents!  With a color palette of red, aqua and cobalt blue, I combined polka dots and stripes to create the decorations.  My first step was to design a custom logo for Austin - one that resembled the Thomas logo - but with a fresh, modern look.  We used this logo for his invitations, …

JJ Cole Giveaway

I've mastered two arts since welcoming my baby - swaddling and laundry. And if you are in the same boat, two great finds are up for grabs this week from one of our very favorite companies, JJ Cole! We adore our friends at JJ Cole for always rolling out fresh new designs. Their new muslin blankets are a must. Haven't tried muslin yet? Don't worry, it was new to me too. They just weren't as popular with my first son but now I would never purchase any other type of receiving blanket. Made from 100% cotton, muslin blankets are breathable wraps ideal for swaddling, receiving and at 48"x48" inches even make for a great "hooter hider" while breast feeding on the go!  And because they are so breathable, I also use them to drape over my son's stroller and shield him from the bright lights and chaos of a busy restaurant. Check out JJ Cole's trendy giraffe, elephant and birdie designs... What I love most about JJ Cole's hamper is that it retails for only $29.95. Every nursery needs one and it's the first good looking hamper for your kids room that isn't made of expensive wicker or cheap mesh (with a frog's head lid!). Their latest color palette includes a slate gray which gives off a contemporary vibe but is neutral enough to compliment any room. Win It! TWO lucky PN readers will win JJ Cole's new slate hamper AND a set of muslin blankets of choice (a $52 value). Enter by visiting JJ …

The Organized Mom

Ask anyone who knows me and they will agree that I am a highly organized individual. Ask my husband and he'll jokingly claim it's a case of OCD progressing with age. But when it comes to being a Mom, those organization skills I mastered in the closet and office pale in comparison to what it takes to running a family.  Stacey Crew is a Mom and a professional organizing expert. While we all can't invite her into our homes (she's NJ based), we can pick up a copy of her nifty guide book, The Organized Mom to help even the most organized people pull it together and better manage life with child. The Organized Mom makes an excellent gift for first time moms. It's covers everything from defining zones in the nursery to defining terms such as layette. My favorite tip: How to simplify your morning routine! (No one dared warned me how that's a killer in the early stages of adjusting to baby). The heart of the book however talks about the author's clever "GOPACK" method: A way for moms to really understand what it means to purge the clutter and tackle the art of organization. And I'd be doing the book a disservice if I didn't mention the workbooks included in the back which encompass everything from questions to ask a potential pediatrician to a handy gift tracker. And finally to share my own experience...I am a second time mom but 6 weeks ago when my labor pains kicked …

Kids Bed Land Collage

Three weeks ago our family welcomed Chase Evan into our lives. My son Austin is now a proud big brother. The transition has been smooth for the most part but the evenings have been restless. It's my fault. You see, I procrastinated in transitioning Austin into his "toddler room". Many months prior to his little brother's arrival, I attempted to move him but he wanted no part of his unfinished, big boy room or twin bed (despite being fully capable of busting through a tent and jumping out of his crib). And truthfully, I wanted to hold on to my precious sleep before baby. Friends warned me and suggested that I transform his existing nursery. Of course I didn't listen because the designer in me insisted on working with a blank canvas. I am delighted to report that the transition into the toddler room is finally a success and I couldn't have done it without Kids' Bed Land! So what could possibly be enticing enough to make a 2.5 year old leave his beloved crib?  This shiny, new bunk bed that magically appeared on my doorstep: It's fair to say that the Montana Bunk Bed is not their most expensive ($459)  nor grade A quality bed but I fell in love with it's thick and sturdy decorative legs.  I also selected it because of its low height of 61 inches. While my toddler won't be sleeping on the top bunk just yet, he'll get to do so sooner rather than later.  The …
