Dressing Up An Antique Porch Swing

The other week we shared the recently completed Hann Family Nursery and focused on our favorite handmade pillows by Sylvie Pillows. Spring Pillow sets are still available in our shop for purchase - offered at $35 off retail. If your thinking that they may not compliment your particular nursery style, check out where our friends Jay and Irwin of Design2Share enjoy showcasing their beautiful Sylvie pillows... Lastly, I want to mention to Joel Dewberry who's products I often introduce to nursery clients. His fabrics make for delightful custom nursery bedding. It's no wonder why I am particularly smitten with yet another one of Sylvie's creations - the Ikebana Pillow:

Good morning, everyone!  I hope you all had a fabulous Mother's Day weekend!  I have the cutest party to share with you today....I recently had the pleasure of working with a sweet mommy from California to create a princess party for her darling 3 year old, Morgan.   So, without further ado, here are  all of the fabulous details from the party.... The concept for the party was unique: create a "pink" princess party, but with some "rocker chic" details.  Our bubble gum pink and black color palette was born!  The first step was creating a special invitation that would make the guests "ooh" and "ahh"!  WH Hostess came up with this darling, two-sided invitation - it had the birthday girl's picture on one side, and polka dots and crystals on the other!  I created a "logo" that was used on the invitation and repeated throughout the party.  After all, it wouldn't be a princess party without crowns and magic wands, right?! The decor for the party was whimsical and fun, and the black accents added a modern edge to the traditional "princess" look.  Some of my favorites: welcome signs sticking out of plants at the front door, black urn centerpieces with custom "magic wand" centerpiece sticks, a custom circle banner (complete with Morgan's crown logo), pink and black polka dot balloons, and.....wait for it......a series of four ribbon chandeliers that hung above the food table.  I love this whimsical, vertical element.....it added a touch of drama to the event!  Stay …

Multiple Kids

Every since I saw this room designed by Melissa Warner of Massucco Warner Miller in Traditional Home magazine last month I have been thinking about how to incorporate silhouettes into children's room design.  I'm not talking your traditional black & white silhouette, I was thinking about something more modern and off-beat. Similar to the idea of using the image on a pillow as Melissa did below. Well it was as if someone was reading my mind, but I was contacted by Jessa from Jessa ZG about taking a look at some of her artwork. After browsing through her website I was very impressed with her unique take on silhouettes and converting them to modern and pop artwork influenced prints.  Her designs use bold colors, imaginative designs and creative type. Even better the prices on the 12"x12" prints were very reasonable (only $40) and she also offers basic framing services starting at $60 for the print and frame. Some of my favorite designs are below: Her years of experience as an educator, nanny and illustrator have enabled Jessa to find a niche in the children's artwork market where she takes personalization to the next artistic level. After looking though her designs I had to have one. I chose the Life is Beachy design below.  Since we live and my son was born in Manhattan Beach, I thought the beachy design was playful and would look great in our hallway. You can even do a series of the whole family, a fun gift for …

Next week marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. What better way to kick of our week long celebration than by introducing mother, artist and philanthropist Rebecca Peragine of Children Inspire Design. Whether it's her use of recyclable mediums,  the contemporary ethnic flair of her artistry or the fact that her latest line comes in eight different languages, Rebecca shares a message you will want to teach your children. This season’s collection launches with a line of stylish, culturally diverse  and eco-friendly  wall art, wall cards and posters full of whimsy and designed to help children learn about our beautiful world.  With a message of compassion, Children Inspire Design believes that if we teach the importance of global responsibility at a young age, carrying that responsibility into the future will be second nature for our children. I particularly appreciate how Rebecca acknowledges various languages in her art. My children's ethnic makeup consists of Chinese, Irish, Norwegian, Russian, Polish,  Austrian and a sprinkle of French. Throw in both Jewish and Catholic faiths and they are simply kids growing up in the 21st century. As a parent it is important that I pass along my appreciation for the various culturals around the globe and those that make up our family's heritage. Learning to count to 10 in Chinese is a fun way to start! Children Inspire Design wall cards are the perfect combination of art and education. They make for a wonderful border around a child's room or grouping  just above the bed for a burst of design (and safety). …

Dessert Bar

I was only a week or so postpartum when I got it into my head that I had to throw my oldest son Austin a train themed birthday bash! How much longer was his love for Thomas the Tank Engine going to last? And how could I make him feel really special? After all, his brand new baby brother was getting all of the attention and much of mommy's time. "Could I really do this?" I thought. And "How much candy do you REALLY need for an Amy Atlas-esque display worthy dessert bar?" Every week I find myself pouring over our resident party contributors' fabulous party posts.  I am constantly inspired by party lovin' blogs and impressed by the busy moms who craft one-of-a-kind kid soirées. So in honor of Austin I jumped in with both feet! Just as I would do with a room design, I wanted the friendly little train to have a modern makeover. So this tired mama asked Kelly of The Party Dress to help brainstorm and she came back with this uber-inspiring Modern Train Party design board just for me! Kelly worked overtime to provide me with all the paper goods from her stationary biz, WH Hostess. Basically everything was handed over on a silver platter. I ran with it pulling together all the color coordinated details. The process re-affirmed my belief in online shopping and yes, you can plan an entire party with a click of a mouse and (in my case) a baby and bobby on the lap! So …
