gray striped wall in baby nursery

San Francisco Interior designer and owner of Anyon Interior Design, Lindsay Brier, recently acquired a new and very important client, her son Hawken. When Lindsay learned she was expecting a baby boy she quickly went into designer mode and started to  plan the nursery. She was eager to make her son's room a cohesive part of their home in both color and style.  We adore the soft gray stripes (it's no coincidence my son's name is Gray), orange accents and roman shade details in Hawken's lovely new nursery. Lindsay shared all the details on how she created this inviting space and she even gave Project Nursery a few of her favorite design tips! Inspiration behind the room I had it in my mind that I wanted the nursery to have an aqua blue and raspberry color palette, when we found out we were expecting a boy I tweaked the raspberry color to more of a deep orange. Then I added in some gray, honey khaki and white which are found throughout our home. I wanted it to be fresh but also a calming space. I achieved this by having some modern pieces but warming it up with some vintage finds. I also wanted it to be fun but not overly "babyish". Actually none of the furnishings in the room besides the crib are from children or baby furniture collections. Favorite aspect of the room I love the striped walls, they are inviting and guide your eye around the room. Also …

There is one thing for sure that I will always stand by in design and that is no matter what ..."You need to be inspired!"  It is a constant dance in my mind...everywhere I look I find inspiration.  I think it adds such a dimension, purpose and direction to every aspect of my life.  I am always asked,"What would you do?"  Well,  in all honesty what moves me to dance a little may not be the same for others.  When I design for a client, they need to feel like they have had a hand in what the final outcome is.  They are the ones living with it and  they need to do their own happy dance.  Don 't get me wrong, I love to be innovative and start from scratch but when I am presented a piece to design from, it provides me a visual map to guide the design to completion.  Last week one of my awesome customers had a last minute request and had their own inspiration, such a treat to be able to accommodate her needs on such a short notice all while designing something super duper cute! Here is the inspiration... Serena and Lily Lulu Bedding - always inspiring!! And here is their party decor...

Thank god for Potterybarn Kids. They probably got the same request I did.

It's time to finally pull it together and complete a few kiddie room designs in this household. For the last 8 months I've been preparing to move back east for my husband's job. I also had a baby on the way and because I was so busy sharing my opinion about everyone else's nursery, I didn't take the time to decorate my own. I figured, "What was the point if we were putting the house on the market?". Well, it looks like we are officially staying put for one more year.  And now my baby will be 5 months this week so like my postpartum figure, I can't claim, " I just had a baby" as an excuse. So without further ado, I hope you'll join me on my latest personal decorating journey. First stop, a creepy-crawly masked superhero for my tot... I am sitting here wondering how my toddler grew up so quickly. I am also scratching my head thinking, "Since when did room decor become a democracy?". Tonight's bedtime conversation went something like this: M: How do you want mommy to decorate your room? DS: I want Spiderman! M: Really? How about this...What colors do you want in your room? DS: I want red, blue and....Spiderman! Okay, I get the hint. Besides, I've ask the same questions all week to no avail. So here goes readers and fellow decorators: How would you decorate your child's room in a theme without a theme? Do you have any clever superhero or Spiderman …

Mendoza Nursery

I just finished this little girl's nursery a few weeks ago and am so excited to share it with you all.  The owners of this nursery were looking for a space which was feminine, classical, romantic, and comfortable. We created a timeless space where a family will love reading and playing with their little girl. The color palette is soft with layers of light pink, taupe, cream and gold. The inspiration for the nursery came from a fabric and bedding set called Angel Toile.  The clients loved the soft pink with peach undertones paired with taupe and cream.  The fabric set a romantic and timeless tone for the room for all items going forward. We kept the walls the original taupe color but added a little unexpected surprise by painting the ceiling a very soft pink. The glider & ottoman set in the corner create a wonderful resting spot to feed and read to this little girl. And the green chandelier casts beautiful accent lighting into the room. Now this would not be a complete little girl's room without an amazing closet.  And what better way to make a closet even more special than to wallpaper the inside (and fill it with spectacular clothes). This is actually a flocked wallpaper so the raised flowers add a little more dimension and interest into the space. We also lined the drawers of the dresser with the same paper. The mirrors above the dresser are on of my favorite items in the room. …

Bloume Baby 2

I recently had the sincere pleasure of getting to know Annie Totten of Bloume Baby thanks to Andrika of Nursery Notations. What I love most about this blogging world is that I get to meet creative and interesting people thanks to an online medium we can all bond over. Now in my opinion, online baby boutiques are becoming a dime a dozen and it really takes some digging to uncover the good ones. Annie is one of those good ones. Her products are top notch because she hand picks every one and her website aesthetics are a real standout. After the initial attraction, I spent a good deal of time trying to get to know her products and what she and her company are all about. It's a message I am excited to preach to you today with a super giveaway to follow! I am amazed and shocked by all the options I have with baby number two. The little things in life seem to be healthier, more simple and pure thanks to the evolution of modern baby products. 3.5 years ago however, I did not have these options. Bottles did not have to be BPA free and who knows what my crib mattress was really made of? I feel somewhat guilty that my first son was born just shy of the green trend. While some eco was available, I didn't know enough to seek them out. Only if  I had moved to Los Angeles sooner! Now a days, you can't avoid it …

I was thinking this week about what to write about for my bi monthly blog entry for Project Nursery and realized that I seem to have adopted this new attitude of ..."what is the rush." It suddenly dawned on me the reason I am getting this feeling of slowing down is because the beginning of summer is upon us. My children are winding up their class schedules. My eldest daughter is home from college and Memorial Day found the whole family along with their cousins at the beach. Time to step outside and enjoy the coming months of sunshine, late dinners and long walks. I also recently finished a new collection of fabrics for Little House that I call Soleil that was inspired by the beaches from the South of France. St. Tropez, azul waters, hot pink skies and the summer solstace all have lent heart to my new fabrics. Due out this July check out some of the new prints that you will find in our new crib bedding collections. I love that summer is here and it is time to travel and explore. I find that not only do my children need the outdoors more that ever on summer breaks, we as adults need it too . Welcome to the start of summer... I hope to spend mine outside enjoying the sunshine.

It was great seeing some of you at the "She's Having a Baby" event this past weekend in Beverly Hills. The entire day was a huge success, one we could not have accomplished without the help of our amazing team. Before we share all the juicy details with you we must take some time to worship Team PN. And now on to those sponsors that helped make it all possible! Our booth, which featured a standout lavender and white themed dessert bar, was jumping with activity. JJ Cole products were plentiful. We snagged a couple to double as giveaway entry holders since they were on a break from doing diaper caddy duty. The first 75 attendees went home with blik's Wee Gallery wall decals. What a way to kick off the event! Kim of  The TomKat Studio sketched this lovely dessert bar layout. We were thrilled at the chance to make it come to life with the help of her sophisticated paper party goods. And no party would be complete without one of her infamous DIY printable cupcake toppers! Thankfully Kim did the DIY part for us so all we had to do was pop them on the cupcakes and voila. We can't forget to acknowledge the supporting role played  by cupcakes created by Angela of Queen of Tarts Cakes. Gorgeous and delicious! Of course, Angela didn't stop there and made her one of a kind cookies to match the lavender damask theme created by Kim. And damask inspired by non other than a fan favorite …
