Modern Girls Gray Nursery

It's no secret that Melisa and I both have a pretty big obsession with the color grey these days. It's such a cool color (literally and figuratively) and is often an interesting alternative neutral to cream or white. Our good bud Jesseca over at The Modern Baby Co. just completed the nursery for her daughter, who is set to arrive in a few weeks, and we are so thrilled she went with the grey! As her inspiration she chose the color palette of pink, tangerine and grey with accents of white to create a serene and beautiful backdrop. The birch tree wall mural is to die for and of course we appreciate the clean and sophisticated accessories such as the butterfly mobile she designed herself. In fact, Jesseca is quite crafty and took on several DIY projects to complete the room. Here are all the details on this modern and peaceful nursery which we are sure you will enjoy. What was your inspiration for your daughters nursery? As the mother of two young boys, I was first and foremost deeply inspired by the simple and exciting fact we are having a baby girl. Our love for modern, clean, sophisticated design, pretty and unique color schemes and natural elements also inspired our decor choices. Do you have a favorite element? My favorite element of this space is the birch tree wall mural that my husband and I created together. We spent an afternoon searching through online galleries, books and magazines for inspiration. We came across this design and fell in …

Graham and Brown Frames Wallpaper

We proudly displayed our Graham and Brown wallpaper wall at Storyopolis this weekend in support of Sophie's Book Club. And now we are thinking that this Frames wallpaper is a must for a future playroom makeover. Looking to create similar shelving to display your child's books for just $20 bucks? Follow our DIY post here. And for a real WOW factor, try running these shelves all the way up, down and across an entire wall for an amazing library impact. It's our belief that if you display your books, your child will want to read them. Happy reading!

My Seat Hushamok

If your familiar with our fabulous Friday giveaways, you know that we seldom brag about the value of a product within the title just to grab your attention. But this week's giveaway is so HUGE, we simply couldn't resist and most importantly, we don't want you to miss out! Last year, Pam introduced you to the Hushamok,  a revolutionary breakthrough in infant sleep comfort. Since then, we've had the opportunity to witness the Hushamok first hand in a friend's home. Its presence was like a piece of art that elegantly stood within the living room. Polar opposite to the primary colored plastic junk that currently sits in mine. The Hushamok's modern design is simply stunning - just take a look below. And it's ability to help sooth a colicky baby - priceless. Whether you’re a minimalist, modernist, or traditionalist the Okoa base takes the beauty of Hushamok to a whole new level. This unique solid wood stand is constructed with sustainable European beech wood and detailed with aluminum castings. The Okoa can be used with both the Hushamok baby hammock and MySeat. Made with modern and eco-friendly materials, this beautiful piece of nursery furniture will instill a feeling of timeless beauty that will be used for generations. The folks a Hushamok know how important newborn sleep is for you and your baby. This essential piece of modern furniture offers a soothing natural motion that is proven to create restful sleep for babies. Baby hammocks are an alternative to the traditional bassinet …

After spending the better part of the 4th of July weekend at the beach, I could not help but have girl swimsuit envy. I'm not talking about those high school girls in their tiny bikinis, I'm talking about the mommy envy of being able to dress up a little girl in adorable swimsuits and coverups. I love my little boy but little girls are so much more fun to dress. Since I used to own my own children's store, I have discriminating tastes on children's clothing and am always searching for cute new brands for my little son to wear. This includes swimwear. If you are bored with the look of Gap, Target, Gymboree and are looking for a boutique line with a little more surfer edge I'd like to introduce you to Haiden Surf.  Haiden Surf was started a few years ago by two surfer-girl-turned-moms in Southern California. Their boys swim trunks "boardies" combine bold animal prints, plaids, stripes, polka dots, and tie-dye patterns and range from infant size to size 7. Besides boardies they also carry adorable surfin' trucker hats, undies (yes they say "no dumping"), rash guards, hoodies, sunnies (sunglasses), t-shirts and flip flops. As a bonus to Project Nursery readers, Haiden Surf will be giving away a free pair of flip flops, actually the Haiden Surf girls like to call them "slaps",  with the purchase of a pair of swim trunks this week. While checking out, just mention Project Nursery in the "comments" section of checkout …

Here's a photo of the room before we started the nursery design.

This week, Little Crown Interiors is taking a break from our Nursery Culture Series to share the story of one of our new nursery design projects (a baby boy's room that is safari theme nursery in shades of khaki, brown and green).  We hope you enjoy the story below, shared by Naomi of Little Crown Interiors: Prelude to the Design I raised my hand to knock on the door of "Client E's" second story apartment, and was greeted by a sweet brunette with a hand on her belly.  There's nothing better as a nursery interior designer than seeing how each new client reacts to their first pregnancy.  After the introductions, she explained to us her hopes of creating a Safari or Jungle theme nursery in her small apartment loft space.  E wanted her baby boy's room to be sophisticated yet whimsical and detailed her favorite colors as taupe, khaki and olive green. Putting the Pieces Together E had one idea in mind for her nursery furniture: dark.  Naturally, we presenterd her with our favorite espresso changing table and  slate iron crib from Bratt Decor. Next, we delved into fabrics, gathering earthy silks and sateens for her luxurious custom crib bedding design. Even in her small space, our floor plan allowed for a cozy glider, topped with throw pillows and their family heirloom plush monkey named "CoCo". The Big Picture This little nursery space needed something big - something spectacular.  The zebra hide area rug and leopard print toy box were …

PoohParty

With my own birthday only weeks away I can really appreciate the work that goes into celebrating that special day. Project Nursery readers, you've really been outdoing yourselves with your party designs. Here's a look at a few of our team PN favorites. Coen's Rockin' First Birthday is nothing short of Grammy worthy! Not only will the guest of honor feel like a Rock Star, but the party favors allow everyone to join in on the band. Evan's First Birthday is a page right out of Dr. Seuss. Doesn't Evan make the cutest Cat in the Hat? How sweet is this ONE-Hundred Acre Woods? Parker's party has the perfect amount of Winnie and Tiger too!

superhero 1

I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July weekend!  I absolutely love the 4th - the fireworks, the festivities, the color palette...  It's patriotic, it's preppy and it just reeks summer to me.  So instead of pulling down your stars and striped decorations today, re-purpose them and throw your kids a superhero party! Take those paper lanterns, star banners, and leftover stripe napkins and pull together a quick summer party for your kids and their friends (you will, for sure, be the coolest mom on the block!).  I love this invitation from Tiny Prints!  Perfect for showcasing a picture of your little caped-crusader!  These felt wristbands from etsy.com would also make fabulous napkin rings!  Now all you need are a few fabulous treats.... A few simple touches can add a whole lot of impact when it comes to treats!  Add a chocolate star atop your cupcakes, or make red, white and blue striped ice pops for a fun treat on a hot day!  You can also cut a lightening bolt out of lemon peel and insert it a glass of punch for a little extra POW! Jonathan Adler Wallpaper

This week's giveaway is a crafter's dream! Now you may have caught a glimpse of it last week over at the TomKat Studio where crafty Kim whipped up super sweet decorative cupcake wrappers and scored nearly 2500 entries.  After I picked my jaw off the floor, I thought I better come up with something  crafty myself. I decided to channel Le Papier Studio and make my very own silhouette art. Afterall, It is called the Silhouette Machine! Voila! My latest entry hall design and family tree. I tend to get carried away twice a year at the semi-annual Aaron Brothers penny sale (going on now!) so I picked up a handful of simple white frames.  I filled them with brightly patterned scrapbook paper to pop against the subtle gray and graphic greek key wallpaper from Jonathan Adler. And then came along the Silhouette: A digital cutting machine for all your crafty projects. Once I downloaded the 64-bit driver to ensure it was compatible to my latest laptop the process was simple. The cd rom of directions are clear and I ultimately toggled between the two windows to coach me through my first cut. Once I made my first silhouette, I couldn't stop. I quickly realized that the possibility are endless. From vinyl wall decals to heat transfers to even etched glass! The machine itself doesn't take up too much room. It prints, it cuts and thousands of designs can be downloaded for only 99 cents each or less should you purchase a subscription. …
