Vintage Tea Party

My daughter Addelyn loves having tea parties for her dolls and friends when they came over. For her birthday, we wanted to do something extra special and fitting for the elegant little girl she is. Vintage Tea PartyEvery weekend for a few months, we went to thrift stores and picked up vintage tea cups and serving platters. She had a blast getting involved and being apart of the planning. I designed the invitations using stock art I purchased from Etsy and I cut out the invites in the shape of a tea bag.
We set up a fairy wand station so that when all the girls arrived, they first made their wands and then sat down for the party. During the party, my husband put on a suit and acted as the server, individually serving the girls finger sandwiches and tea. On each saucer, we placed pink sugar cubes in the shape of teapots (we found them at Home goods for $4!) I also had bowls of sugar cubes on the table that I adorned with heart shaped sprinkles found at Michaels. After they ate, we played Pin the Teacup on the Saucer. I used a floral poster board from Hobby Lobby and cut out a teapot using card stock. I then glued doilies around the poster to act as tea cup saucers. We blindfolded each girl one by one and they had to try placing a cutout of a teacup on one of the doilies. The girls loved this game and wanted to play it multiple times! We also printed out teacup and teapot clip art for each place setting for the girls to color on. Most of the plates and decorative items came from Amazon. For added fun, we set up a “photobooth” using a backdrop from Michael’s wedding section and I cut out different fun shapes on card stock for props.
As the girls left the party, we handed out teapot shaped boxes filled with cookies along with individually wrapped teacup shaped lollipops. These aren’t pictured but I’ve included links.
For the menu, we opted to keep the sandwiches very simple. The sandwich options included turkey with cheese, ham, chocolate spread with marshmallow cream, and raspberry preserve. We also served cheese cubes and fruit with a variety of sweet treats including cupcakes, rice krispies dipped in pink chocolate, and a fabulous ombre cake!

Olivia’s Garden Tea Party

When my daughter, Olivia, asked for a Garden Tea Party to celebrate her 5th birthday, my creative juices really started to flow. There is something so sweet and special about a little girl’s first tea party, and I instantly envisioned Olivia with her sister and their friends in an enchanted, magical setting. With a lot of work and painstaking attention to detail, my backyard was transformed into a lush, picturesque garden—perfect for any little lady to sit and take her afternoon tea!
I started by designing and building a gorgeous custom canopy around the dining area, with flowing drapes that cascaded down to the table seating all of Olivia’s friends. This created an incredibly charming atmosphere and seeing the drapes dance in the breeze only added to the ethereal essence I was hoping to capture. My favorite part of the table was the simple, yet elegant golden chandelier that hung in the center—rather than having it be an overly ornate decoration, I opted for a playful piece that while appropriate for a children’s party, lends to the overall sophistication of the event.
The table was beautifully decorated with delicate birdcages, which I filled with silk flower petals; for centerpieces, I arranged Manzanita branches, speckled with organza butterflies, birds, and hanging terrariums. I also set the table with multi-tier serving trays filled with adorable butterfly and flower-shaped tea sandwiches, my own fun and whimsical twist on traditional Afternoon Tea fare. Rather than seating cards, I had an artist design custom tea cups for every guest at the party with their names, which also served as a lovely, personalized parting gift.
Of course, the perfect tea party would not be complete without a stunning dessert table so I built a customized 8ft by 6ft flower backdrop, hand-crafting every intricate bud out of brightly-colored paper and then making it come to life with realistic accents. The backdrop stood behind an absolutely breathtaking designer cake, matching cake pops and elegant tiers of delicious cookies, cupcakes, and macaroons. The vibrant colors of the backdrop and desserts worked so well together, and with the garden-theme mirrored in every detail, this was truly a focal point of the party’s décor.
To make the party as enjoyable as it was beautiful, I invited our favorite Princesses who helped entertain guests with singing and dancing, and I organized various activities ranging from cupcake decorating to bracelets crafting. I also ordered a castle bouncy house which is always a favorite of the kids’.
I really loved being able to watch my ideas come to life and took so much pleasure in hand-crafting every last detail of this party; however, the most rewarding part for me was being able to create a fun, memorable experience for my daughters and their friends, and to make Olivia feel so special on her birthday.
Enjoy!

Quinnie’s Mouseka-Tea Birthday Party

Our daughter, Quinn, loves Minnie Mouse and so when it came time to plan her second birthday we knew Minnie had to be part of it. After deciding on a Sunday afternoon party with just a few of her closest girlfriends, an “afternoon tea” or Minnie Mouseka-Tea came to life.
The guests, which included 6 of Quinn’s little girlfriends, all arrived in party dresses. We kept to the tea party theme with giving them each a strand of “pearls” to wear and special tea cups (with lids and straws!) to sip lemonade from. Each girl also had a pair of Minnie Mouse ears that was customized with a gold glitter monogram at their place setting. Of course the birthday girl refused to wear hers but the other girls loved them.
We served mouse shaped pimento cheese and cream and jam sandwiches and fruit with yogurt dipping sauce (served in mini tea cups) for an afternoon snack.
The desserts were the star of the show. We served strawberry cupcakes from our favorite bakery, Sugar and had custom tea cup mouseka-tea sugar cookies made at another local favorite, Bakies.
After the snacks and drinks the girls played in the backyard with beach balls and Quinn’s new playhouse and slide, and even colored custom coloring sheets.
It was such a fun fancy afternoon and we can’t wait to have another tea party soon.

Shabby Cottage Farmhouse Birthday

I helped a good friend of mine plan her daughter’s 5th birthday party and since her daughter wanted a farm animal petting zoo and pony rides, this cottage theme would work perfectly! I just love the mix of shabby gingham with the roses and the western mix of fonts! I didn’t want to do a pony party, barnyard party or a cowgirl party because I’ve seen it done so many times. This theme would also be great for a bridal shower, baby shower, tea party, etc. I can customize the candy labels to your specific needs and the birthday banner can be downloaded for free in my shop!

Teacups & Tutu’s 2nd Birthday Par-tea

For my daughter’s second birthday I wanted soft, sweet colors and what little girl doesn’t love to twirl around in a tutu?! The party is a combination of DIY projects, items from vendors (I discovered I was not very good at making tulle pom items), and reuse of items (I have used those mason jars for my wedding, baby shower, Presley’s 1st birthday, and now her 2nd).

A Francophile’s Twin Shower

A French infused tea party shower for twins!  Food + Decor: The classic Ladurée green inspired the decor and accented the white and ivory linens and details. In addition to the delicious macarons, mini lemon bundt cakes and almond biscotti were served. Vintage linens, doilies, and milk glass adorned the table, and gold touches added sparkle! Favors: Since the shower was kept to an intimate group of 12, each guest went home with their very own box of Ladurée macarons! Credits: Styling & Event Planning- Fleurishing LLCLetterpress Invitations- Curious & Co.Rentals – Party Rental Ltd.

Alice in Wonderland 8th Birthday Party

I had an Alice in Wonderland party for 20 little girls to celebrate my twin girls’ 8th birthday. When the girls arrived they each made an Alice in Wonderland t-shirt.  They chose what color shirt they wanted and then they chose a fabric key, teapot, flamingo or cupcake to go on the front of their shirt.  After helping to iron it on, they handed it over to my friend Kate who then appliqued all 20 shirts during the rest of the party. The girls then made layered fabric hair clips with button or gem centers.Instead of gifts, each girl was asked to bring a wrapped stuffed rabbit.  It could be any size, style or color.  As each girl arrived I put a numbered sticker on their package.  After finishing their hair clips, the girls went on a key hunt.  There were large blue sparkly keys hidden all over and each one was numbered.  After they found a key, they matched it to the same number on one of the packages.  Then the girls all opened their packages and got to take home the rabbit that was inside. Next the girls had a tea party with cupcakes, pink lemonade and a sundae bar. Finally, the girls had a Wonderland dance party led by a great DJ who had them doing the “YMCA,” “Cha Cha Slide” and “Chicken Dance.” You can see more photos at:  http://www.andbabiesmakefour.com/2012/03/eight.html
