Hawaii Inspired Nursery

Growing up, my family and I spent every summer in Maui, HI (I even took my first steps there!).  We continue our annual visits to this day, only now with all of our families.  We have so many wonderful memories there and I love the immediate feeling of peace and relaxation when the plane lands in Kahului.  When my husband and I found out we were pregnant, I knew I wanted to create a little sanctuary for our baby boy that echoed those feelings.  I wanted to keep it crisp and clean, but also bring in some bright colors, just like Hawaii.  I found these amazing prints by artist, Nick Kuchar of all the places we love on the island.  They had a playful and vintage flair, and I knew I wanted to design the room around those prints.  The other items that we selected played off the color palette that Nick used in his prints, and gave the room a cohesive look.  I especially love the ombré mobile which reminds me of the beautiful blue ocean.  We absolutely love how Owen’s paradise came together!

Puppies, Polka Dots and Plants Nursery

I had so much fun designing this nursery for my baby boy.  To be honest, I grew up with sisters and have a niece so I was taken back a little about where to start creating a room for a boy.  But as soon as I came across the wallpaper, the rest fell into place.  I wanted the room to feel fun yet classic and I am very happy with how it turned out.  Now, if he can hurry up and get here already!!!  Momma is ready!

Arie’s Nursery

I started designing the nursery for my baby boy at around 24 weeks and wanted to center it on a woodland bear-type theme with turquoise and mint colors. I ended up incorporating all kinds of bears into the nursery and made the color story pretty cohesive around blues/blacks/greys. I took a lot of inspiration from modern pinterest but also wanted to put my own spin on it – I hand made and crafted a lot of the pieces in the room, including the banners hanging around the walls, the shelves, and the painting and customization of some of the different accent pieces.
I got the main inspiration for the theme actually from a rug I found on wayfair.com for children and that inspired my entire color story and bear theme! I looked on a variety of different websites – for my big furniture pieces I looked on wayfair and pottery barn kids and for most of the wall decor and accent pieces I turned to Etsy. I would highly recommend Etsy for anyone who is looking for nursery accent/decor pieces since there is SO much variety and so many cute, hand crafted things that you can’t find anywhere else. My favorite accent pieces in the room (the two houses) were hand crafted and painted by a vendor who builds these mini shelf houses and it couldn’t be more perfect with my theme and the cute, hip vibe.

Cooper’s Modern Dino Nursery

Cooper’s nursery is a fun, stylish space that he can grow into.  The room is pure white, with a black triangle decal accent wall and pops of teal and royal blue all around the room.  His gallery wall is full of inspirational quotes, pictures of his family, and fun accents.  He has several subtle dinosaur accents throughout the room.  I wanted his room to be boyish, fun, and clean.  Most of my inspiration came from Pinterest and from following other designers’ nursery projects.  I fell in love with a dresser from Land of Nod that was not in the budget, so we opted for an IKEA $200 one, a can of dark gray paint, and some brass dresser pulls.  It looks just like the Land of Nod one AND it’s bigger. Bonus that it was less than half the cost!  The white bookshelf is also IKEA, we just painted the back of it to add in the teal pop of color.  One thing that helped tremendously when buying things for the nursery was to keep the samples of my paint colors in my purse, so that if I saw something I wanted to buy, I could check the color first to make sure it was close enough.

Colorful summer birthday party

For my son’s 2nd birthday, I wanted to make something as bright and fun as his personality.  We made him a strawberry cake (with freeze-dried strawberries), ombre strawberry buttercream and strawberries on top!  I went vaguely for a tropical theme, hence the flamingos and bright colors.  I tried to stick to pinks, blues and purples. I also made him the pastel iridescent garland and the giant balloon arch (though I ordered the supplies on Etsy).  We also made rice krispies treats for the kids in attendance.  The sparkly blue  ‘2’ candle was also from Etsy.  We had an electronic picture frame flipping through pictures of the past year on the table as well.

Whimsical Nursery

When I found out Im having a girl after already having 2 boys, I couldn’t be more excited. I always had this specific nursery in my mind that I never had a chance to bring to reality because I had no girls, so after the big news hit my mind, I got busy.
It came out to be harder than I thought because most of the stuff I either had to make myself or alter it somehow to match what I had in mind. On top of that I was also on a budget so I had to spend wisely which was super hard.
I ended up buying used furniture and painting it white. My mom helped me sew my bedding and together we came up with a perfect mobile to match the whole theme.
I really wanted to have gold accents here and there so I bought a gold spray paint and painted things like letters on the wall, mobile hanger, curtain rod, and picture frames.
What I’m mostly proud of is that most, if not all, the things in the room are done by diy technique. I’m excited to know that no one will have exactly the same stuff and that everything in my little girl’s room is made especially for her!
I had a lot of fun designing this special room and it came out exactly how I’ve imagined it.
