Commercial Design Project, Kids’ Waiting Room for Princeton University

Children’s waiting room interior design project at  Princeton University. I was beyond thrilled when contacted by a team of scientists ( psychologists and neurologists ) at Princeton University. This group of professors and graduate students from the Turk-Brown Laboratory are conducting research on the infant’s brain by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (or fMRI), to see how they learn, remember and think. My job was to turn a tiny 7’x10′ windowless study room into an inviting but not too “clinical” waiting room for the mothers or fathers and siblings of the babies being studied.

Twins Nursery, Boy and Girl Dog Theme in New York

This twins nursery was inspired by the family’s two dogs. This couple wanted a fun and vibrant room that was whimsical yet not babyish. The dachshund wall paper set the stage for this nursery for a boy and girl. We added bright teal, aqua and yellow fabrics and a whimsical yellow chevron rug. The gray paint set the backdrop for our velvet nursery glider and the bright dog themed artwork. The custom aqua colored chandelier features branches and leaves in a nest shape. I found discount store lamps that were gold and silver in color and ordered custom colored spray paint so we could match the lamps to the chandelier.

Princess Nursery in Lavender with Glitter Wall

This lavender princess nursery is truly regal with a custom glitter wall as the focal point. Sweet lavender accents on creamy white silk add just enough color to this custom girl’s nursery fit for royalty. Creamy velvet nursery glider and ottoman set feature a fun fringe accent around the skirting. The custom six-arm nursery chandelier glistens with crystals and the feathered chandelier shades and lamp shades add a fun touch of whimsy to this lucky baby girl’s nursery. Notice the huge crystal finials on the custom curtain rod…they pick up the lighting and really sparkle! The beautiful distressed gray crib features an upholstered headboard and footboard in sweet gray linen, adding a soft French Country touch to this elegant nursery. Celebrity Vintage Toys Boy’s Room

This three year old little boy looks exactly like his father as a toddler! So his “vintage toy themed” room was inspired by the vintage oil painting of his father as seen in the middle image.  I thought it would be great to add new, but vintage looking toy trucks, boats and more to the boy’s room and add retro styled fabrics of muted green and blue bubble dots, ticking stripes and brown corduroy. To complete the look, I painted a personalized radio flyer wagon and red tricycle canvas for over the bed. What a great way to bring in the family ties and provide a classic vintage boy’s room that will last for many years to come! Oh…and I almost forgot to mention… this is a celebrity kids’ room. Can you guess who the celebrity might be? It’s none other than Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss.

Little Prince Nursery

Mom-to-Be loves the book, The Little Prince and wanted her son’s nursery to reflect her love of the book, and literature in general. Our talented muralist, Heather Davulcu painted the mural and quotes around the room adding a sense of sweet whimsy to the space. Bench made in the USA, we selected custom made nursery furniture in our custom color combination along with beautiful baby blue crib bedding which tied in well with the book’s colors and theme. We saved money by using store bought valances to keep the cost within the client’s budget. The empty frames on the wall will be filled with newborn photos of the baby shortly after birth.
