Petria Leggo-Field

My name is Petria, I am 32 years old and a mum to 3 beautiful girls aged 9, 3, and 1. I have a love to design our home in a more natural and minimalistic way.

Coco’s Tropical Nursery

A nursery should be the most tranquil place in the home, with elements to make you feel calm and at peace. By using natural materials in Coco’s nursery it helped her settle into life on earth.
I believe that creating warm, comfortable surroundings not only helped Coco to relax but it also helped us to be happy and calm parents.  I carefully selected products from small businesses that I love, with both visual and tactile textures to inject interest and contrast to the space.
The theme that we went with was a relaxed, earthy tropical feel. The bohemian style is very on trend, gaining strong traction in interior design circles and also focuses on a natural eco-friendly setting.
The bohemian style shows great versatility in forms of tropical, coastal, botanical and earthy themes.
I believe as a parent we should give our children a purposeful education in looking after the environment and I wanted to design a room that created wonderment and encourages inquisition.
If you are a first time stylist, then I would suggest starting with a neutral base on your walls, floors and even high priced items such as a cot.
This way you can introduce your theme and colour with your decor items, without risking an expensive design you may want to change in the future.
For more practical advice, storage! Make sure you have some storage baskets for all the different baby items!
The combination of natural materials, graphic green foliage and leather accents all add earthy organic feels to the room and can easily be recreated in your babies nursery.

Rhaina’s Botantical Wonderland

This room belongs to our beautiful nine year old daughter, Rhiana. I wanted to create a relaxed, earthy bohemian feel for her that was sure to build an environment of wonderment and inquisition. I also wanted her room to have gender neutral feel but didn’t want to go all monochrome and lack lustre.
All elements are fresh, natural and earthy. I personally like to add patterns and textures to a room by using  gorgeous natural materials, linen cushions, wooden beads and fresh plants.  Especially fresh plants, it totally changes the dynamic of any room!
A big tip to some one who is on a budget but still wants to spice up their room is look up. That’s right, look up at those bare walls they are a canvas waiting to be used. I like to style walls, whether that be with feature wallpaper or a cluster of prints and decor.
I am inspired by a more natural and minimalist way of life.  I want to raise our children in the same back to nature approach that I was raised in.
