Entertaining With Emily

Although my design background is in interior architecture, I am a creatively-obsessed, hands-on DIYer mostly because I have an insatiable need to alter everything, just a bit. I never met a can of spray paint I didn’t like!

Ariella’s 6th Birthday Puppy and Kitten Bash: It’s Paw-ty Time!

Bow WOW Meow! More info in this party reveal on the blog.
For her 6th birthday, my daughter Ariella chose a “Puppy and Kitten” theme because she was dying to have a pet of her own.  As a compromise, I suggested a Puppy and Kitten themed party in which the pets could go home at the end of the day, but that she could still get cuddle time with the little cuties!
For the color scheme, I was inspired by these dog bone shaped bowls I found online.  I used that as the basis for the party color palate, and then matched the graphic signs, yarn, and decor to those same colors (Aqua, Yellow, and Coral).  Aside from cuddling really cute puppies, the kids enjoyed making pet collars for the pets they were adopting as party favors and giving their stuffed animals check up at the veterinary station.
Some of my favorites aspects of her party were:

the styrofoam-wrapped colorful balls of yarn I made and hung throughout the party space!
the brightly colored bone-shaped dog bowls the kids ate out of (these were such a hit)!
The signage and graphics I designed for the party – was inspired by the colors of the dog bowls!
The pet adoption center / party favor take-home presents!
Ariella’s name letters wrapped in bright colored yarn!
The “cheese mice” we served as appetizers!
The adorable aqua cake with the cutest dog and cat fondant characters!
The puppies who came to entertain the kids!
Paw Print Balloons weighted down with large dog bones!
The “Make a Collar” for your pet station!
The homemade Puppy Chow we made and served out of dog bowls!

Sound the Alarm for Maverick’s Fire Truck 4th Birthday Party!

My son LOVES fire trucks. I mean, he can’t get enough!  There is sheer excitement in his face when one passes us on the street with its lights flashing and sirens blaring!  So, for his 4th birthday, we decided to pull out all the stops and throw him the birthday party of his 4 year old dreams – A Fire Truck Birthday Party!
I sent out invitations that I had designed and have for sale now in my Etsy Shop.
For party activities, Smokey’s Fire Engine came and toured the kids around the neighborhood with sirens blaring and lights flashing!  The kids also did an obstacle course which we called a ‘firefighter training course’, in which they got to put out fire in a “burning building”, toss hula hoops around a hydrant, and use a backpack with a water hose to spray down cups.  There was also a fireman craft table, yummy fireman-themed food, and endless fun had by all!
Some of my favorite parts of his party were:

the fireman on straw poles
the fireman obstacle course
the fondant cake by Les Pop Sweets with Maverick’s name in the fire hose!
the rides in a real fire truck around the neighborhood
the flame-look balloons we used as table centerpieces
The fondant cake topper with his name in the hose spelled out!
The stuffed Datamation puppies we gave away as party favors
the smile on Maverick’s face as he thought he was a REAL firefighter!

To easily recreate this party for your own special little fire-truck loving boy, you can head over to my shop and purchase the Fire Truck / Firefighter Digital Printable “Party in a Box” Kit!  It takes the stress out of planning a birthday party, and your little man will have the best day ever!

You’ve seen natural floral crown wreaths all over lately. It’s festival season after all! And while I didn’t make it to Coachella this year (or ever for that matter!), I can still channel my inner goddess with an ethereal floral wreath crown and pretend I’m still young, hip and cool, right? […]
