As an event designer, I love everything about design. Designing a nursery seemed like the most special thing to me as I dreamed about it for 6 long years! After 4 miscarriages and years of secondary infertility, our miracle baby, Scarlett Elizabeth, arrived on September 14, 2016. I immediately fell in love with her as she is the biggest blessing in my life! I enjoyed every minute of designing Scarlett’s nursery and it took me many months to figure out exactly how I wanted it to look. I decided to do a delicate, light pink room fit for a princess! The first thing we did was the flooring, crown moulding & paint! I then found a beautiful rose patterned crib rail cover, crib sheet & additional fabric to add a few more touches. It is a small room (8’x10’) so I had to get creative to fit everything, including the tons of clothes this little lady has! My husband, Kevin, put shelving and racks in the closet so we could make use of every inch. He also converted a little pink doll closet that I found at an antique store years ago (hoping someday I’d have a little girl) into a headband closet for all of Scarlett’s hair accessories! Scarlett’s grandmother Lydia took the extra fabric I purchased and made an amazing custom crib skirt and window valance. She also found us a great chandelier and Scarlett’s grandpa Scott bought her the perfect crib. Our awesome neighbours (who own Budget Blinds – New Westminster) got us a great window shade with a blackout feature! And Scarlett’s family & friends filled up the bookshelf with some wonderful books! I knew I wanted a quote on the wall that signified what a miracle she is, but I couldn’t find one I liked. So I designed one myself that matched the colour scheme. I also framed other sayings with watercolour floral prints for above her armoire. I found the perfect bed crown to drape curtains around the crib and the final touch was her initials in wooden cursive letters. I had a $2000 budget for everything which included furniture, flooring, paint, mouldings, bedding, curtains, artwork & accessories. I am so happy with the way it turned out as it is exactly how I imagined it for all these years! And our princess just loves it!
