I am a first time mom with a degree in Interior Design. I had so much fun designing this space for my little one!

Industrial Vintage Airplane Nursery

As soon as we found out we were having a boy, my mind started racing with all kinds of ideas for his nursery. I have always loved the look of industrial design and knew I wanted to incorporate it in his nursery somehow.  I thought it would be a great look for his room that he could grow into. I also knew that I wanted to add another theme that would give me some direction on the decor. We chose an aviator/vintage airplane theme and I ran with it!
To incorporate the industrial theme, my husband built custom pipe and wood shelving that took over an entire wall. Because this is a small room, we knew that extra storage would be essential, especially as he gets older. The shelves hold baskets, books, and decor that make a huge statement as soon as you walk in! We also built a custom pegboard above the changing table to hold baskets and buckets for diapers and wipes. The accent caged barn light above the changing table was a must! A great dimmable light for late night diaper changes!
One of the biggest (and one of the first) design decisions in this room that we made was to add a map of the world above the crib. After looking through many tutorials and blogs on Pinterest, we found that we could simply use a projector to project the map onto the wall and then trace the lines using a light pencil. After we traced the lines, we went over the pencil lines with a paint pen. It was super easy and only took about two hours to complete! It was completely worth it and makes a huge statement!
The crib was actually my husband’s crib when he was a baby and the changing table came from his grandmother’s house. Because we did not have to purchase those big ticket items, we got the freedom to splurge on the decor. Most of the prints are from various shops on Etsy and all of the frames were from Michaels Craft Store. The other decor came from other various places such as Target (their new Pillowfort Collection), At Home, Ashley Furniture Homestore, and Ikea. The curtains and crib skirt were hand sewed again by my wonderful husband (did I not find a keeper :) ) I just couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out!
