Amanda Castelli

Mom of two girls, 3 and 6. Landscape Architect and Planner. Love anything design, especially for babies and kids. I am currently working on a side hustle that I am calling Nesting Kits. It is an online nursery design service specializing in on-trend and custom nursery design boards and nursery design starter kits (kits includes furniture templates, paint samples, bedding, wall decals, etc.).

Woodland Gender Neutral Nursery

I feel in love with the process of nesting after having my two girls.  I also design public spaces, such as playgrounds and parks in my everyday job.  Designing nurseries is how I am merging these two passions.  I chose this project because it was designed for a very deserving couple. The couple wanted a gender neutral woodland theme.  I found the owl removable wallpaper and used it for a focal wall and point of inspiration.
A well-designed nursery to me is budget-friendly, functional, reflects the family’s character and adaptable.   I believe a nursery is a starting point.  Your baby will transition into a toddler room and then into a big kid room and then into an even bigger kid room.  Selecting colors and materials, such as removable wallpaper that can be adapted into different themes as they grow will save you time and money.  Elements that can transition in this room, include the crib, removable wallpaper, pegboard organizer, and changing table.  The crib converts to a toddler bed. The removable wallpaper can be replaced or removed.  The pegboard can be used to hang toys and baskets as the child grows.  Finally, the changing table converts to a dresser.  The closet was also designed to accommodate many different types of organization from onsies and crib shoes to toys and books as the child grows.
My favorite touches in the room include personalized birdhouses painted by a friend and decorations from the baby shower that were reused.  I had a blast designing and helping this deserving couple create a nursery that represents the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
