A Vintage Little Girl’s Room with Touches of Modern

The inspiration behind the design of this room is a vintage feminine look with touches of modern!

Many of the pieces in Ella’s room are vintage, but we love mixing in modern and versatile pieces such as this adorable queen bedframe that she will be using for many years to come. These gorgeous blush pink pillows  added lots of texture and were the perfect feminine addition to the room.

The vintage dresser in her room is another favourite piece that was refurbished and given a new life! These whimsical handmade garlands gave this corner of the room the perfect magical touch. They were also used as a decoration piece for Ella’s birthday party.

Ella was also asking for a fun change so we went from polka dot walls to these really cute rainbow wall decals. They’re really the sweetest looking wall decals. With lots of bright fun colours and eucalyptus leaves in the rainbows giving a subtle touch.

Unicorn Bedroom Makeover

I would love to share the makeover of my seven year old daughter Adelyn’s bedroom makeover. For her “big girl” room she wanted unicorns, horses, and sparkles…so we compromised to still get her vision while “taking it down a notch”  (or about a dozen!). To create more of a softer look, I used subdued pastel colors, and lots of textures. We added in a lot of fun unicorn and horse items in either inexpensive decor items or easy-to-swap out artwork will sweet, girlish images. We used a new spindle style bed and layered on lots of pink, white, and gold bedding.
But, her favorite part of the room is her new pink sofa! While it is primarily a reading nook, as a bonus it also folds out as a second bed for sleepovers. I love her new Wall Gallery full of fun, whimsical art (where else can you use prints of fairy floss than a little girl’s room??) We added in some fun DIYs just as the $69 light fixture and $2 gold horse figure.
I also wanted to keep it really budget friendly since I wanted her to fully enjoy her space, and not freak out when she secretly brings out her hidden marker stash…I know it is in there somewhere!
My advice to readers for designing a kid room: don’t go over the top with a theme! Instead, do something a little more classic with neutral furniture, and then sprinkle in fun touches (such as our bubble gum blowing llama).
