Star Wars Shared Boys Room

I had SO much fun designing this Star Wars shared room for my boys with a neutral base (blacks, greys, etc) – so that the rest of the decor can easily be swapped out as they grow and their interests change. I made the chalkboard above the crib by repurposing a cupboard door from the local Habitat store and wrote the iconic Yoda quote (so fitting for my son who was unexpectedly born with a rare genetic condition that makes him very small). The watercolor prints were a fun, contemporary touch and really brought this room to life. Hope you like it as much as my boys do! http://meettheparkersoregon.blogspot.com/2017/01/star-wars-boys-room.html

Gender Neutral Star Wars Nursery

My husband, Rob, is a huge Star Wars fan. When we found out we were having a boy, I decided I’d give a little nod to my husband’s interest by designing our son’s nursery using the Star Wars theme. I noticed that a majority of Star Wars items were dark colored (Darth Vader wears all black, the backdrop for being in space is black, the movie posters had dark colors etc). I wanted to create a nursery that was gender neutral with soft and bright tones. I also didn’t want the room to look too “cartoony” and too busy with Star Wars prints. I opted for the colors: white, grey and khaki. I also wanted to incorporate a shape (stars) to tie everything together. Since Star Wars can be a little too mature for babies, I tried to create a room that was baby friendly — Darth Vader looking cute rather than scary and evil. My mother-in-law, gifted us with a remote controlled, wall mounted lightsaber that we use as a night light. Since I also wanted specific Star Wars items in the room, I handmade a few things such as: the death star, put together the wall art, traced and cut out the vinyl stars for the walls, pieced together the mobile, cut-out the felt for the moon+ stars garland, made the diaper changing pad and the diaper changing pad cover. Two of our very close friends handmade the Wampa rug!

Dexter’s Dark Side of the Force Nursery

When we discovered we were expecting a boy, we wanted to make his nursery something special, beyond all the baby blue. We took inspiration from Darth Vader, and ran with it.
We hand painted the wall, and customized most all of the furniture, including the glider that I was able to re-cover. I made all of the bedding, including the mobile.
The end result is something that he can grow into. The Force is Strong with this One.

Design Star Inspired Boys Room

This is my son’s big boy room! After several air plane rooms (in our past 2 homes) I decided to go a little more neutral with the theme. He likes so many things, so I wasn’t planning on a mural but when I saw a similar mural on HGTV’s Design Star I thought it would be perfect. Once I showed him the picture, he was really excited. I added a bit of Star Wars in his sheets and a few paintings I did on canvas above his desk- those were a surprise and he was thrilled with them!
