Room

We redecorated a spare bedroom and transformed it into a Nursery. The room was previously used by young family members whenever they came to visit. They painted, drew, wrote and scribbled on all the walls. Using them as their own personal canvases to express their artistic personalities. With our permission, of course. Once we found out we were pregnant we begun to brainstorm ideas and scoured the Internet for inspiration. We wanted a special room dedicated for our first Baby. We decided to have a room with nautical design inspiration because here were we live in North Germany at Baltic Sea in a harbor city. Our baby will grow up surrounded by nautical and sailing influences and this was the best argument for us to choose this theme.Life quality here is strongly benefiting by the beaches, the ocean and the maritime  climate. We live in a small apartment and for the birth of our baby family and friends came to visit, thats why we decided to add a very small guest corner.  

My 2 year old needed a big girl room and this is what we created. She moved from her nursery to a big girl room, so make space for baby sister due in June.  Her big girl room was my craft room/junk room/hold everything room so once we finished the room, I was so glad to see it have a real purpose.  

I focused on a modern nursery that would easily transition with Audrey as she grows.  A baby’s room that wasn’t too “baby” or overly girlie.   Her parents are young, cool, and hip…and that’s what I wanted to convey in the design.  Baby Audrey did her best to let me know what she liked too–lots of swirls and lots of kicking.  

This nursery was created for my daughter, Ella.  I knew I wanted to work with a yellow and gray color scheme and then add in touches of pink.  The room is very small and though I had a lots of ideas, I tried not to clutter it up but keep it simple and add lots of homemade touches to treasure along with some modern items that she can grow up with and aren’t so ‘baby.’

I never thought it would be so difficult to decide on a theme for my first child’s nursery! I wasn’t thrilled with any of the “bedrooms in bag” and I about passed out when i saw the cost of nursery furniture… so with a tight budget in mind and a somewhat modern/simple/clean/fun nursery as the goal, I decided to see what I could do on my own — and by on my own, I mean with the help of my incredibly sweet and talented group of family and friends! It’s still a work in progress, but overall, I love what we have created.

I’m expecting my second girl and we are moving my 21 month old into her own “big girl” room when the baby is born so the baby gets her old room. So instead of decorating a nursery this time around, my project was a big girl room. I also managed to do it fairly inexpensively.

Small room with high ceiling. I wanted to create a girlie room hat would be appropriate from birth to 7. I decided to go with creating a large tree mural with flowers and blue birds. On the opposing two walls I created a flower stencil which I patterned down the walls.
