Aria’s Princess Room

Aria’s dad contacted me even before she was born. He wanted a room that would be really special and very very pretty. He has a gorgeous new home and wished for a beautiful princess room that would perfectly match the rest of the house. And he wanted pink.
I started with choosing a beautiful bed and built the design from there. I absolutely love wallpaper and use it whenever I can so I suggested a soft dusty pink wallpaper with little gold stars and that set our mood and colours for the room. The room originally had grey walls and the decision was made to paint them pink. I colour matched them with the wallpaper and now the whole room feels nice and calm when you walk in.
Opposite the bed is a pretty bookshelf in the shape of a house decorated with lots of books, toys, personalised prints and decor. It’s positioned there to create balance in the room. I used the space under the window to create different play areas: a beautiful castle like dollhouse, a hanging rack with gorgeous little dresses, a mini white piano and a cute little vanity with little wooden nail polishes.
Everything in this room is so lovely. From the gorgeous metal cornice canopy and pretty velvet bedding, to the adorable tulle ring with satin pointe shoes and glamorous paper flowers on the wall, everything is so girly and princessy. Just like dad wanted for his little girl.

Baby Nursery for Brooke

After 2 boys, it was a no brainer to accent the nursery in pink. We didn’t want to paint the room again… but it looks great with the teal and pink. I think having the walls green really compliments all the pink accessories. It was so much fun hunting my favorite stores for feminine pieces… all the furniture in the nursery was less than $500! I wanted Brooke’s bedding to be different, so I sent the fabric to my Aunt Jan, and she sewed the quilt, pillows and even a baby doll quilt. To save on cost, I purchased the silk and made the curtains and rest of the bedding. I love the Winbourg Sisters artwork, and painted the piece above the antique dresser to accent the blues in the room and we hung cute butterfly mobiles and a tree branch from the sky painted on the ceiling. The last hand-painted pieces was the ceiling medallion that we bought from Lowe’s for less than $20. What I love about Brooke’s nursery is the serene feeling and it looks like a very expensive nursery, but was done on a small budget! You can do it too!

She’s a Big Girl Now Princess Room

Every girl wants a princess room. They are only children for a little while, so why not give them a room that they love to show off to everyone who visits. Let their imagination run free, they will be faced with the bieges and greys , browns of everyday life soon enough. My theory is “Give them color” ” Inspire them to love color and art” Psycologists who study the effect of color in children’s and infants rooms have found that pinks in particular tend to sooth a child as does soft blues. While neutral colors seem to have little effect one way or another. My favorite part of this room is the book shelf because reading is so important in a child’s life and the castle cutouts because dreams are just as important.

Heigh-ho Heigh-ho to Kora’s 1st birthday we go!

Since the birth of my daughter my husband and I wanted to have all the Disney classic movies for her to watch and grow up with. As her birthday grew closer I knew I wanted something earthly, vintage and storybook. The 1st thought that popped into my head was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. So I got to work watching the movie over and over again and the internet became my best friend. The invitation was designed to look like storybook inviting guests to come to our cottage. Once they arrived the guest were welcome with a sign to enter the enchanted forest. For the favors each kid received a wooden basket filled with an apple sippy cup, bubbles, an organic lollipop and a crayon roll. During the party the kids had fun drawing and playing in the coloring cottage, and in the family playroom that contained a tent, toys, and a ball pit. Each table was covered in a rustic burlap cloth, firewood and one of the seven dwarfs. For the outside dessert table I decided to recreate the Dwarf’s mine and filled with sparkly jewel-like sweets for the kids and adults to indulge in!
