I worked with an existing wall color and started with the main colors of bright blue, magenta and yellow. I wanted the “theme” to be cheerfulness captured through patterns. For the most part the it was a DIY project.
Our families threw us a beautiful pink, grey, white, and glitter baby shower! It was full of lovely patterned papers mixed with hand painted illustrations and included baby photos of my husband and I as well as a slideshow of my baby bump’s progression thus far.
I wanted Ezekiel’s nursery to be colorful and fun without any real theme. I always loved patterns, such as stripes and chevron, so I started there. In order for the room to be colorful, but not too overwhelming, we painted the walls grey and had the carpets and crib grey as well. Then we added touches of our favorite colors – green, teal, orange, and yellow – in fun patterns.
The girl who lives in this room is girly, bubbly, full of energy and loves color. So we wanted to design a room which matched her personality. This room has very tall vaulted ceilings and is full of light so could handle the bold color combinations we chose.
I wanted a feminine nursery that incorporated elements of clean lines as well as traditional. We wanted a cohesive look, but not too match-matchy. I’m so lucky to have a handy husband and a mom who paints well!
We did not find out if we were having a boy or a girl and I had the hardest time finding any nurseries I liked. I wanted a room that went with our house and wasn’t the cliche yellow or sage gender neutral room.

K’s nursery was pieced together with the intention of creating a fun, whimsical, “make me wanna smile” space to enjoy. My husband and I love to spend time in the nursery with our little man and we think (hope) he enjoys it as much as we do.
In anticipation of his baby sister’s moving into the nursery, we created a big-boy bedroom for my son. Some of the items moved with him from the nursery; others were thrifted; others were purchased new and one iconic feature, a reverse-stenciled dresser, was DIYed.
Once I found out I was pregnant, the nursery planning quickly began. When I found out I was having a girl, the bigger debate happened – to go pink or not to go pink. I decided to go bright with lemon and lime.
I wanted to create a unique nursery for my baby girl that would grow with her, but still incorporate a bit of whimsy. Rather than choose a theme, my design of this nursery developed organically, as I found various pieces that would work together without appearing too “matchy-matchy.” Working with a variety of shades of gray was a learning experience – who knew there were so many? And finding the perfect punchy coral color might as well be akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. Fortunately, I met a lot of helpful people along the way who turned my dreams into reality. Thanks to the other Project Nursery members for sharing their design ideas. Those too served as great sources of inspiration!
Since we don’t know the sex of the baby, we really wanted to stick with neutrals as the common denominator throughout the room. We incorporated splashes of colors and textures to add a kid-like flavor to the room. My favorite features in the room include the animal family canvases, the sheep mobile and the pillows.
