Owl Nursery

I waited several years to have our first child with hopes and dreams being dashed month after month along the way.  Beyond the obvious desire to have my own baby to snuggle, love and raise, I also had the desire to design and make a beautiful nursery to put that little bundle of joy in.  Finally, after approximately three years of not-so-patiently waiting, my dream became a reality and I began to design a nursery for our little addition.
Since this space is a part of our small Cape Cod second floor/master suite I wanted the color scheme to easily blend with what we already have, and I wanted the room to not be babyish so that it could be transitioned at a later date into a space for my husband and I to enjoy.  For the design of the room I was inspired by an Owl Table Lamp from West Elm, tree silhouettes at kitchenbelleicious.com, and a beautiful quilt by Petunias on Easy.  For more on my Owl Nursery visit my blog: studiomcreationsdesign.blogspot.com/2016/09/owl-nursery.html

Owl You Need is Love

After our 4 day old son died in 2014, I still wanted to incorporate the baby furniture and sage green color we were going to use for our son’s nursery with our newborn daughter’s room. To make it more feminine, I chose pink as an accent color and incorporated the theme of owls and birds with the crib, pictures and decor.
I love incorporating different patterns and textures together, so I took the patterns that were in the Pottery Barn Kids quilt and used them throughout the nursery–pink gingham, sage green polka dots and brown polka dots. I also used minky fabric in sage green and pink that incorporated a “dot” texture as well.
And yes, that is a freezer you see in the picture!  Didn’t have room to put it anywhere else, so my Mom made a cover for it.  She also made the owls and the crib rail cover. ;)

No-Paint Birch Tree Nursery

So when we moved to Old Town Alexandria (Virginia) and into a rental house with all white walls, I thought it would be so hard to recreate our beloved Birch Tree Nursery. “No painting allowed” was what the landlords said. Therefore I was challenged to add the robin’s egg blue and rich orange colors to Ethan’s nursery without paint. And without my painted birch trees.
Luckily I found a great vendor, NouWall, who made extra tall birch tree decals for a very reasonable price. Problem, solved. We brought in more blue on the window cornices, changing pad, foot stool, and mobile…all homemade.
In no time we had a cozy, home-like nursery in our formerly cold rental house. No paint needed!

Owlive You!!

I found the sheets first and LOVED them but not the entire matching set.  Owls are so fun and different.  I wanted something fun and for a girl but not too girly!  I also wanted black furniture against a bright wall.  The room is not very big but the colors make it bigger and brighter.  We kind of mish mashed everything together from all different places and managed to stay on somewhat of a budget!  I am really happy with the way it turned out! I love it and so does my daughter!

Tribeca – Owl Nursery

Interior Designer – EMC2 Interiors in NYC / The mural in this modern owl nursery was painted for twins. It’s neutral and airy. I chose to use the corner space because it’s where your eye is drawn. The height of the ceiling added to the design. It was painted to fit exactly in this space. I loved the fabrics and colors the designer chose. She has wonderful and fresh ideas. On the opposite wall she had built ins with a foldaway bed that doubled as a chalkboard for the kids. The cribs she picked are from designer David Netto.
