Girly Superhero Birthday Party!

My baby girl who just turned three wanted a Super hero birthday party. She wanted a red cape and a cake with a supergirl figurine in it. I was SO excited when she finally decided on the theme. She did change her mind a few times before settling into this theme but I was so glad this is what she chose. I do like girly girl stuff to some extent but I really prefer modern and clean design elements. Also I wanted to stay away from the typical comic book design so went along with a teal, fushia, blue and white color scheme.

Fabulously Theme-less First Birthday

Hello Again! As if my Wilhelmina’s “Fabulously Theme-less Nursery” wasn’t enough, I decided to go for a “Fabulously Theme-less First Birthday” to celebrate our glorious first 12 months with our girl.  We decided to throw a fairly simple party, on a beautiful November day, in the shade of the trees in our side yard. Our home is right next door to a neighborhood park so it was an ideal location for all of W’s friends to join us for some cupcakes and BBQ and a fun day of playing in the park.

Glam Camping Birthday

What better way to end summer and welcome the fall than with a glam camping party! In celebration of my niece’s 6th birthday we decided to throw a glam camping party for her and her friends. The girls had so much fun roasting marshmallows, hanging out in the tent we made and catching fireflies at dusk. The best part of this party….it can definitely be brought indoors in the cooler months! For the centerpiece of our table, I collected branches and spray painted them purple and placed them in a terra cotta pot we got for a few dollars at the craft store. At the ends of some of the branches I tied small strips of fabric we used throughout the party and stuck some mini marshmallows on the end. It made for a rustic feel, with a some glam thrown in :) For desserts we had vanilla cupcakes we topped with edible fondant toppers from Cakes and Kids, caramel popcorn was our “midnight snack” and Fun Favors supplied the most adorable cookies that coordinated perfectly with our theme. Some of them even had edible glitter on them! We also filled berry baskets for each girl, supplied by Party On! Designs, with graham crackers, marshmallows and Hershey’s chocolate bars for s’more making during the party. I Have A Favor supplied personalized canteens for all the girls. During the party they filled them with “spring water” and then took them home as a party favor. We also sent each girl home with a mini mason jar filled with “s’more’s for later”, a mix we created using mini marshmallows, M&M’s and golden grahams cereal. During the party the girls loved hanging out in the tent my dad actually built using pieces of lumber from the local hardware store. It was great as it was tall enough for the girls to even stand in! We draped two queen sized sheets that coordinated with our theme over the tent and secured the ends to the ground. We then placed a coordinating throw rug on the ground so the girls had a comfy place to sit while playing in the tent! The girls loved going glam while camping in the backyard. It’s a great theme for girls of all ages and was a great way to end the summer too!

Sweet Spa Birthday Party

When I asked my daughter, Emma what kind of party she wanted for her 5th birthday she immediately said she wanted a spa party! Instead of spending oodles of money at one of the kids salons, I decided to have it at home. Since the party was in the late afternoon we decided to have a sweets table filled with delicious treats for the girls to enjoy after their spa treatments.Amber of Party On! Designs created a fun and girlie set of party printables in pinks and aquas to give a touch of glamour to the at home event. We served store bought cupcakes, decorated spa mask cookies from Stephanie J’s and pink macarons from Sparkles Macaron. The girls loved all the treats after their spa treatments! We set up a mini nail bar and a beauty bar and while some girls were getting beautified, others were creating their own flip flops. I bought pink flip flops from Old Navy and cut scrap fabric up in colors matching the party. They loved creating them and wearing them after they got their pedicures! I hired two high school students that lived in the neighborhood to come over and give the girls their beauty treatments while the moms relaxed and chatted. As the girls said their goodbyes, they each received a bag for their flip flops and were each given a mini favor box designed by Pamela Smerker Designs with hot pink polish and cotton balls for touch ups at home. Jameson Monroe also sent for each girl a headband as an extra special treat and they all received a mini cupcake bath bomb from FB Essentials. The party was a hit and the girls truly had an amazing time! The birthday girl’s shirt was designed by me, her mommy of Sweet Threads Clothing Co and The Sweet Crush designed a matching necklace for her to wear. Jameson Monroe completed her outfit with a special headband for her super special 5th birthday! It definitley was a party to remember!

Kung Fu Marley

“Planning this party for my Marley actually started way back in April of this year before the sequel of the first Kung Fu Panda movie even came out.  Last year we had a sweet shoppe party for Marley because she was really just the sweetest baby ever.  Well, in year 2, she has turned into a true spitfire with tons of spunk!  So it hit me to do a Kung Fu Panda party for her, but of course with a twist.  My challenge was how I could make this party fit for a little girl because the theme traditionally seems a bit boyish!  Changing up the colors did just that!   The invitation was the starting point for the party and I wanted it be Kung Fu Panda but different, so adding the hot pink pagoda is where it started and went from there.  I love pink and green, so I added a touch of black to complete the color palette.  A little glitter to the pagoda was the finishing touch.

Sophia’s Vintage Barbie Inspired Birthday Party

For this party, I wanted the dessert table to help capture the children’s imagination just a Barbie does. So, I tried to design it as though it was actually a place in Barbie’s house.  I found the perfect black and white striped fabric, for the background, which called back to Barbie’s original bathing suit. And then I chose a dressing table to display the sweets and used it as inspiration for many of the other elements. First I found the most beautiful corset cookies and chose to stand them up like a wardrobe of gorgeous Barbie dresses and displayed them in and around a jewelry box. I had the cake pops standing up in a make up bag like beautiful lip glosses. And I created a silhouette, inspired by the classic vintage Barbie silhouette, and used it as one of the icons for the party as I designed the paper goods.  To create the “floral” centerpiece for the dressing table, I was lucky enough to find the perfect marshmallow roller pops .  The favor table was laden with fabulous accessories which I was able to find in the Target dollars bins… pearl necklaces, bracelets, flower headbands, gloves and even little purses to hold all the goodies!

Kayla’s Candy Land

It was fun working with this mom because she is a graphic designer by profession. She created the invite and we used it as inspiration for the rest of the project. Kayla’s mother also designed signs that were used on beverages and a dessert table banner. When guests entered the party, they were greeted by candy-wrapped columns and a “Welcome to Kayla’s Candy Land” banner with a peppermint candy walkway. The dessert table featured cupcakes by Passion for Pastry and assorted candies that the kids could fill in their own personal tins. Each candy tin had a custom stickers, as well as the candy tins and centerpieces, which all complimented the original invite design. Outside, there were hanging cellophane-wrapped lanterns that resembled life-sized hard candies. Life-sized lollipops lined the pool, re-creating the Lollipop Acres atmosphere from the original board game. Princess Frostine’s Fruit Punch and Lolly’s Lemonade was served. Rainbow swirl lollipops with Kayla’s Candy Land custom stickers were displayed on the high-tops and main outdoor dining table. In addition to the candy tins, each child received a Candy Land board game as a party favor.

First Birthday Garden Party

For our daughter’s first birthday party we decided to host the party in our backyard. She has a spring birthday and it would give the kids plenty of room to run around. We started with the butterfly invitation from Tiny Prints and I scoured the stores starting in February for decorations or craft items. The baskets and garlands from World Market were perfect and we built the rest around those colors and designs. We took one of the baskets to the bakery and asked them to design a cake to match it. We entertain a lot so we had most of the serving dishes but decided to add some kid friendly non-breakable additions and some outdoor tablecloths. Since we had boys and girls we made sure we had lots of colors with some pink thrown in. We also had several ages of kids and lots of adults so we varied the activities and menu to match. We had lots of bubble toys, a tub of rubber frogs, a splash table and balls for the kids to play with. For the menu, we had chicken salad sandwiches, tomato tarts, melon balls, bug shaped mac and cheese, pbj sandwiches and ham and cheese sandwiches, chocolate covered pretzels and cheerios along with the cake and cupcakes. For beverages we had water, juice boxes, lemonade and raspberry lemonade punch. For favors we had bubbles and a rubber frog for all of the kids.
