Knox’s Modern Forest Nursery

When we found out we were having our second boy, I immediately started doing searches for nursery theme ideas. I had already done a safari themed nursery for my oldest that I loved and wanted our new baby to have something special of his own. For both boys, the idea was to get furniture that would grow with them and a design that could be tweaked as they moved into toddlers without redoing the whole space. I decided on a “modern forest” theme for Knox. I wanted something that felt clean and peaceful, but also inviting with touches of playfulness. I love the look of a black and white nursery, and chose to add touches of cognac and forest green for some warmth. After putting together an inspiration board, I started looking for pieces that I felt went with the theme. There aren’t a lot of places to shop in person where I live, so I did most of my shopping online. I decided on the main furniture first and then filled in the accent pieces and décor after that. Having the big stuff in the room helped me feel out where things should go and what the space still needed. It took a few tries and exchanging things in and out, but I love the end result and hope Knox will too!

Forest Friends Nursery

For baby Jackson and outdoor/nature-loving parents Jessica and Chris, I designed and styled a “Forest Friends” themed nursery with a modern-boho feel. Jessica had selected a couple of pieces but needed help pulling the rest of the look together, and I was happy to help! We used the rug as inspiration and with its earthy tones and a tribal pattern, it set the tone for the room. We brought in a red-brown dresser which tied in perfectly with the rug. Fox bedding ties in with the baby fox print and fox bookends. To style the bookshelves, we styled Jackson’s baby books with some of Jessica and Chris’ existing collection of vintage cameras and props, including binoculars given to Jessica by her grandpa. The rocking chair is a family heirloom and belonged to Chris’ grandmother. The mobile was a DIY made by Jessica made from a dreamcatcher she made in college paired with feathers and mini forest animals. The two cross-stitch hoops are also DIYs made by Jessica.

Whimsical Forest Nursery

The bed was key to my inspiration. My daughter was almost two when we moved to our new house. I wanted to make her room feel magical and special especially her bed to get her out of ours oh my… also big enough for me to fit in oh dear… and good thing we did… I designed the bed from Pinterest inspiration. Drew up the plans and my husband built it. I wanted it to sit on the ground so she wouldn’t roll off. Her bed serves as a play place and a sleep place. It’s a house style bed. With Pom poms and lights. She loves it. Some days it’s her boat. Some days it’s her barn or dollhouse. It stimulates her imagination and I am sure her dreams too.
I was pregnant at the time and my nesting urge was strong. I was waiting for the gender of our expecting babe so I did not start on her nursery so all my efforts went into my toddlers room. I decided on a bunny wallpaper from anthropologie. It was very whimsical and we spend a lot of time in the Forrest so I wanted that to be part of her room since it a very big part of our lives. I made a gallery wall with forest creatures and dream catchers and refinished a mid century modern dresser.
a lot of love went into this room from my husband and I because we love the little girl in it so much. She’s our world so we wanted hers to be extra special.
