I wanted Ezekiel’s nursery to be colorful and fun without any real theme. I always loved patterns, such as stripes and chevron, so I started there. In order for the room to be colorful, but not too overwhelming, we painted the walls grey and had the carpets and crib grey as well. Then we added touches of our favorite colors – green, teal, orange, and yellow – in fun patterns.
We had the joy of travelling to Brazil at the exact month of our baby’s first birthday, so we couldn’t miss the great opportunity to celebrate this special moment with our family.
For our little boy’s nursery, we combined modern patterns and color combinations with playful, fun tactile monsters – friends he can look at and touch as he grows in these first few years. We now jokingly call his new monster friends his “monstourage.”
Instead of choosing one theme, we decided to fill Jonah’s room with a mix of our favorite things. We wanted a warm and cozy environment for our new little one, but also a room he could grow into.
When we found out that we were expecting a baby boy, my husband immediately said that he wanted the nursery to be truck themed. Not being big on themed rooms, I told him we could do truck accents. I love what we did and so does my husband – he’s even told me that he wishes we could do our bedroom like this. ;)
A contemporay colorful bubbly baby boy’s room. I hand painted the mural of colorful bubbles all across the room on an icy blue grey wall. I wanted a room that was fun yet serene and that would handle colorful toys and books without clashing.

Shared rooms have become a popular subject over here at Project Nursery and we have received many requests for ideas and inspiration. I too have been paying extra attention to these requests because someday, probably sooner then I think, I may also need to “double up” and put my daughter and son together in one room in order to create space for another little being. (No news, just forethought!) Rachael, mother of son Jasper and new baby girl Amelie, was in a bit of a time crunch to put together a gender neutral space before her newest arrived on the scene. She wanted it to feel right for both a boy and girl and we think she did a great job of keeping the feel of the room consistent while still creating separate spaces within the room. Here is how she did it:
