Puppy Dog Tales

Our daughter and son in law are expecting twins!  ☺️One boy and one girl😍I am opening a baby boutique and one of the services offered is nursery design, so of course we were excited when they gave us the green light to design and compose the nursery for our first grand babes! What a perfect gift for us to give and for them to receive❤️
They started a K9 rescue three years ago and literally give everything they have to rescuing sweet pups and placing them in the right homes after ensuring their are healthy and ready. They have 5 beagles and one German Shepard themselves.
Brittany is a teacher and both work endlessly with not much time nor have that “nich” for design. Once the plan was made, they went on a “babymoon” for a long weekend away in order for us to pull of this complete revamp of the nursery to surprise them when they got back home. And all on a budget!
We first had a contractor come in a take paneling off the walls and remove a window. The room is small so we had to be VERY strategic and utilize every inch of space we could in order to give them storage and still have room. We had him put up 1x4s to creat some dimension for us. The room before was dark and hard to create a good layout/flow but he made these adjustments for us and it was great!
My husbands parents came down from NY to help us assemble the nursery for the weekend. My mother in law and I painted the upper half of the room and my husband and his father tended to electrical and assembling.😂☺️
For months I had been collaborating with some great businesses on Etsy as I knew I wanted it to be a custom nursery, with unique touches that were custom to the space, with little pink and blue. I believe that can be a tiresome pallet when having one of each gender.
We had mobiles made custom to fit their fur family of beagles and a shepherd. Every aspect and right down to the little details of this room were all thought of and executed perfectly! Right down to the outlet covers and custom crib sheets and prints. The changing table is a buffet made into a changing table with great storage! The light is a vintage antique designed lamp we got at an antique mall. My mother in law and I hung the wallpaper in order to have a feature wall. The twins also have Nook mattress under the sheets. The changing pad is a Hatch Baby Grow. The white dresser was also from an antique mall, brought home and painted with dog pulls added to the drawers. Every piece was meant to be current, trendy and functional for their needs and safety of the twins. The glider/rocker adds some relaxation and a space for bonding for these sweet parents.
When they arrived home to their extreme make over, they were absolutely flooded with happiness, joy, sentiment and excitement for theirs babies new space.
Everyone has said that the nursery needs to be in a magazine 😂so here I am sharing this wonderful creation that we are so honored to have been a part of.
We hope Project Nursery falls in love with their sweet Dog Tales nursery as much as we all have!!

Lauren’s Colorful and Cheerful Dog Inspired Nursery

My husband bought me the dachshund dog print by Tad Carpenter at Flatstock/Bumbershoot in Seattle about 5 years ago. We have two sweet dogs and I envisioned using the print someday in a dog-themed nursery suitable for either a girl or a boy. Fast forward and we are expecting a baby girl this spring!
I used the dog print as the focal point for the room over the crib and planned the decor around it. The nursery is in our basement which is unfortunately narrow with a low ceiling and little natural light. I wanted it to feel bright, colorful, and cheerful without being cluttered and cheesy. I had a lot of fun mixing sentimental items, DIY projects, and Etsy finds with furniture graciously gifted by family and friends.
There is no closet in the nursery so we affixed a kitchen towel rail from Ikea to a shelf from Pottery Barn Kids to make a “closet” for our girl. It was fun picking out the special clothes to display, including some dresses I sewed and her first St. Louis Cardinals jersey.
I love everything in the room, but the crochet dachshund dog with the red beret (purchased while shopping with my best friend and her newborn in Kansas City) and the dog coat hooks (purchased from Ikea years ago on a whim) always make me smile.
