I didn’t set out with any particular “theme” in mind for this room but once I decided to DIY that starry ceiling version of one of my favorite wallpapers, it all came together. From that one point of inspiration a loose celestial theme evolved – light and peaceful with touches of dark wood to warm things up and loads of different textures. You can see my original inspiration board for the room here.
When we found out that we were having a boy, I envisioned a bright, bold, and colorful nursery where he would feel most comfortable, and love playing, reading, rocking, and falling asleep in his own special place.
This is the nursery that I created for my son Emerson. Only a few items were purchased brand new; most were hand made by family and friends or refinished by me.

My husband and I were temporarily living in DC when my son was born. Even though we were in a rental, and I knew we would be leaving in a year, I wanted to have a fun nursery. However, I did not want to do a lot of work that would have to be undone when we left. I decided not to paint the walls, but rather cut out white contact paper in tree branch shapes to create a little fun on the blah walls. We were on a very tight budget so all of the furniture either came from Craigslist (DC has a fabulous selection!) or Ikea.
Woodland themed nursery filled with DIY projects and accents of pink, sage green, chocolate brown, and powder blue.
I wanted to create a nursery that was based on fabrics, rather than a theme. I wanted something that was girly and could grow with my daughter.
Fun, fresh + modern wall arrangement in Addison’s new big girl room.
I had to transform a BLANK, empty(white walls, no furniture) room into a magical, cozy, stylish nursery. I have a 11 year old daughter and have wanted to have a baby boy forever….I would fantasize about boy clothes and rooms etc. Once we knew we were having a boy, I was “frozen”..I had no idea where to start or what to do!
