Commercial Design Project, Kids’ Waiting Room for Princeton University

Children’s waiting room interior design project at  Princeton University. I was beyond thrilled when contacted by a team of scientists ( psychologists and neurologists ) at Princeton University. This group of professors and graduate students from the Turk-Brown Laboratory are conducting research on the infant’s brain by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (or fMRI), to see how they learn, remember and think. My job was to turn a tiny 7’x10′ windowless study room into an inviting but not too “clinical” waiting room for the mothers or fathers and siblings of the babies being studied.

Celebrity Vintage Toys Boy’s Room

This three year old little boy looks exactly like his father as a toddler! So his “vintage toy themed” room was inspired by the vintage oil painting of his father as seen in the middle image.  I thought it would be great to add new, but vintage looking toy trucks, boats and more to the boy’s room and add retro styled fabrics of muted green and blue bubble dots, ticking stripes and brown corduroy. To complete the look, I painted a personalized radio flyer wagon and red tricycle canvas for over the bed. What a great way to bring in the family ties and provide a classic vintage boy’s room that will last for many years to come! Oh…and I almost forgot to mention… this is a celebrity kids’ room. Can you guess who the celebrity might be? It’s none other than Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss.

Pink & Leopard for Ava Jaymes!

This Nursery Room was designed for Backstreet Boy AJ & his wife Rochelle McLean. We started off with a pink and leopard color palette, lending itself to a feminine glam concept with a bit of sass!
We wanted this room to be transitional for Ava as she grows, so instead of choosing pieces with a Juvenile look, we selected furnishings with a more classic style and convertible functions that she can use and will love for years to come. AJ & Rochelle were so wonderful to work with and they are incredibly happy with the finished product!

Pink Princess Girl’s Room, Celebrity Kids

This celebrity princess room was designed for a very special 7 year old girl who spent countless hours twirling around as either a fairy or a princess! Being the only girl of four children, we were told that there simply could not be enough pink in this room and so I set out to design an opulent little palace for this sweet little princess. We started by selecting furniture that would last into adulthood and yet had that feminine edge. We custom designed the 100% dupioni silk bedding and added sweet gems and jewels to the pillows and valances. The feather boa lamp added a touch of playfulness and boasted teardrop crystals to coordinate with the stunning chandelier. I topped it off with my own Sherri Blum Regal Crown Monogram Plaque with her initial and my best-selling Storybook Canvas Wall Art. The end result was a room fit for a princess of any age! Designed for the daughter of Lisa and Buddy Valastro of TLC’s The Cake Boss.

Celebrity Nursery – Gender Neutral Jungle Safari

This gender neutral nursery was designed for Lisa and Buddy Valastro, stars of The Cake Boss by Sherri Blum, owner of Jack and Jill Interiors . Due with their fourth child, they didn’t want to know the baby’s gender prior to birth. The parents had very different ideas about how they wanted the nursery decorated, as well. Lisa wanted an elegant, traditional nursery, and Buddy wanted and over the top Jungle Safari nursery theme. My job was to help them find a compromise.
