Blue Stripes

I designed and decorated this room for my own “big boy” when I was pregnant with my second, and was looking for something that two little California beach boys could grow into and ultimately share.  I was very inspired by a photo of the bedding in the Serena and Lily catalog but put my own spin on it with black furniture, a rather random collection of surfer and beach art and photography, and a hand-painted surfboard.  The walls are bold green and there is an occasional hint of orange in the room.  Photos by Jackie Culmer Photography.

We purchased our home almost four years ago and have been slowly renovating each room. We saved the third bedroom for last always knowing it would be the future nursery. Before we began, we had to remove the layers of wallpaper on both the walls and the ceiling! We wanted everything in the nursery to be able to be used once he is a toddler which included all furniture and the design.

We wanted a playful, colorful nursery in which we saved money and had fun by doing most of the projects ourselves. We didn’t want a theme, but used a color scheme of various shades of blue, bright green, orange, and chocolate brown.

#3 (expected in November) needed a place to lay his little head at night.

Since #2 is almost here and my second nursery is almost complete, I thought I would finally organize and post pictures of our first child’s nursery.  I wanted room that he could grow into so avoided a typical pastel muted nursery look and went for bold blues with pops of bright colour.

We are welcoming our first son in April and wanted to do a nursery that was different and modern. We statred to look at bedding online and found the most wonderful prints at Caden Lane.We knew we wanted to paint the walls blue, but wanted to add more personality. So, we did the accent wall with stripes!We love it, and can’t wait to welcome our sweet baby boy home in April.
