Blush Sophistication Big Girl Room

Never, EVER, did I think I would paint a room blush pink.  Yet, here we are and…I LOVE it!  Now, let’s get to the back story.
We moved into our beautiful, new (to us) home in March of 2020.  Yes, right at the start of the pandemic.  It was a tough time for our sweet girl, her whole world had been turned upside down in a matter of weeks.  Once we were settled, I knew I wanted to make her room special and something that she would love as she grows up (I’m not crying…).
Her room at the new house has beautiful vaulted ceilings, two bright windows, and ample space to spread out.  She had spent her time distance learning in our dining room this past year, but I was ready to reclaim my space and give her some much needed privacy (cue seven year old attitude).  We were on a pretty tight budget as we are doing other projects around the house.  Thank goodness for Target!  We found the perfect desk, bookcases, and accessories.  Great quality, affordable and so, so cute!
Together, we chose the perfect blush pink, Head Over Heels by Benjamin Moore.  She squealed in delight as I painted all that luscious pinkness on the walls.  I have to be honest, it felt a little pink overload at first.  However, once we put everything back into the room and added those pops of turquoise…wow, I was a little jealous!  I painted the wooden storage bins to match the turquoise in the throw pillow.  They give that perfect pop of color in the book cases while still providing cute storage.
The dollhouse also received a little makeover.  Fresh paint, some new furniture and decor.  It’s a favorite amongst my daughters friends when they come over for a playdate.  And, let’s be honest, me too.
What I love about paint is how it transforms a space for not a lot of money.  It really allows you to be creative and bold.  My daughter and I had a great time creating her new space together and I know it’s something we will love for years to come.

Eclectic Boho Toddler Bedroom

I dreamed of having a daughter. I dreamed of all the tiny little girly things and special mommy daughter moments we would share. I dreamed of designing her nursery and then getting to know her and designing her first big girl room.
This is Charleigh’s room. It is perfectly her, a mix of girly, wild, natural, and whimsical. Charleigh is not a dainty little toddler, she’s a wild flower. She’s all over the place-climbing, running, jumping-but she just may be doing all of these things in a tutu. As you can see from her room, she is an eclectic mix of many things as is her happy boho space with lots of storage, hangout spots, and the ability to climb on and off of her custom modified daybed.

Vintage Floral Big Girl Room

When planning to transition our daughter to a big girl bed, I decided to give her room a refresh. I wanted to create a soft, mostly neutral space with a floral and vintage-inspired elements that she could enjoy for years to come. I began by painting the walls a warm white, and then installed peel and stick botanical wallpaper (custom colors: white and mist) for an accent wall behind the bed. For the bedding, I started with a cozy white duvet and layered feminine pillows and a blush throw. I love affordable toy storage options, so I used a white cube organizer with fabric bins, and dressed it up with a round rattan mirror, brass lamp, and greenery. A blush rug pulls it all together. One of my favorite things about this space is the clean and minimal look! My advice is to keep things simple, focus on elements that you love, and include storage that is both functional and pretty. Find more details on my blog HERE!

Boho Chic Girl’s Room

My daughter is my hardest client yet. With a constantly evolving style, she loves so many different elements that it’s hard to complete a space without a lot of hesitation and second-guessing. However, this finished room left my girl happy, and for that, I’m ecstatic.
We combined a neutral palette using white and black along with jewel tones on her bedding and pillows to add some pop and give a little character/personality to this space.

Girls Room Makeover

The “Before” was a very boring, plain, builder-grade look. The house was built in 2019 and while everything was nice and new, the room had no personality and did not reflect the little girl living in it at all! There was nothing “custom” about the room and it’s likely that everyone who bought a home from our builder had rooms that looked exactly like this one. The room also had very little functionality aside from sleeping! There was little to no storage, no shelving, and no real storage system for toys, books, etc.
We wanted more, and needed more out of this space. We wanted a space that WE could get creative in, but that would also encourage creativity for our little girl! She needed a place she could feel herself in, feel safe in, read in, study in, and just enjoy being home in!
The entire makeover could have been done in one weekend, but it took us about 3-4 weeks simply for delivery or products we had ordered to spruce things up (bedding, rugs, etc.). We chose a kid-friendly bedding that can be made up simply with pull of a zipper! We went with a beautiful and feminine floral peel and stick wallpaper that was not only SUPER easy to apply, but it has all my daughter’s favorite colors!! Then we added some neutral wood toned shelving for aesthetics and storage, a large comfortable egg chair for cozying up with a book, and some floating shelves above the dresser for books and/or pictures. The entire project cost about $750.
We love everything about this project! My daughter was over the moon thrilled when it was finally done and now she enjoys playing, reading, lounging in there all the time!! It’s so pretty and functional now that it’s even inspired her to keep it clean!! Now if that’s not a mom-win, I don’t know what is!!!
I honestly wouldn’t change a thing, well…except I would have done it sooner!!! But my only words of advice would be make sure that whatever wallpaper you choose works with your wall type. For example if you have textured walls, make sure you get a wallpaper that works well on it. This one did for me! The other thing I would add is make sure you choose design elements that are true to YOU!!! You are unique and the room’s personality should reflect yours!

Aria’s Princess Room

Aria’s dad contacted me even before she was born. He wanted a room that would be really special and very very pretty. He has a gorgeous new home and wished for a beautiful princess room that would perfectly match the rest of the house. And he wanted pink.
I started with choosing a beautiful bed and built the design from there. I absolutely love wallpaper and use it whenever I can so I suggested a soft dusty pink wallpaper with little gold stars and that set our mood and colours for the room. The room originally had grey walls and the decision was made to paint them pink. I colour matched them with the wallpaper and now the whole room feels nice and calm when you walk in.
Opposite the bed is a pretty bookshelf in the shape of a house decorated with lots of books, toys, personalised prints and decor. It’s positioned there to create balance in the room. I used the space under the window to create different play areas: a beautiful castle like dollhouse, a hanging rack with gorgeous little dresses, a mini white piano and a cute little vanity with little wooden nail polishes.
Everything in this room is so lovely. From the gorgeous metal cornice canopy and pretty velvet bedding, to the adorable tulle ring with satin pointe shoes and glamorous paper flowers on the wall, everything is so girly and princessy. Just like dad wanted for his little girl.

Unicorn Bedroom Makeover

I would love to share the makeover of my seven year old daughter Adelyn’s bedroom makeover. For her “big girl” room she wanted unicorns, horses, and sparkles…so we compromised to still get her vision while “taking it down a notch”  (or about a dozen!). To create more of a softer look, I used subdued pastel colors, and lots of textures. We added in a lot of fun unicorn and horse items in either inexpensive decor items or easy-to-swap out artwork will sweet, girlish images. We used a new spindle style bed and layered on lots of pink, white, and gold bedding.
But, her favorite part of the room is her new pink sofa! While it is primarily a reading nook, as a bonus it also folds out as a second bed for sleepovers. I love her new Wall Gallery full of fun, whimsical art (where else can you use prints of fairy floss than a little girl’s room??) We added in some fun DIYs just as the $69 light fixture and $2 gold horse figure.
I also wanted to keep it really budget friendly since I wanted her to fully enjoy her space, and not freak out when she secretly brings out her hidden marker stash…I know it is in there somewhere!
My advice to readers for designing a kid room: don’t go over the top with a theme! Instead, do something a little more classic with neutral furniture, and then sprinkle in fun touches (such as our bubble gum blowing llama).

Stella’s “Big Girl” Room

It was time to transition Stella to a “big girl” room, not only now that she is 2, but also because “baby sister” will be arriving in less than a month!  I wanted to make the move before the baby arrived so that it would be like a natural transition.
I had already painted the bottom part of the walls a sea green and the top part a green that is one shade off from white.  This offered me a pop of color without being too bold.  I decided to keep this color and work with it.
I started with a white, wrought iron daybed as my inspiration.  This was my childhood bed and I thought it would be special to pass it along.  Next was bedding – I chose a basic white with pops of color, which allowed me the flexibility to pull from the colors in the bedding for the rest of my decor/accents.
I really wanted to do a fun chandelier, and found this one to be the perfect mix of neutral and organic.
The rest of the decor began falling into place once these pieces were established.  When in doubt, I always default to white because it’s clean and then pull in color with accents.  My theme held consistent for the curtains.
To tie in the playful theme, I chose a fun area rug that I felt was neutral but also seemed almost as if a child drew the diamonds/lines since they are all uneven.
Lastly, I wanted to make sure there were items that made it feel like her own, including a cable to hang her artwork, a bookcase to display some of her favorite books, a fun little jewelry box holding her favorite play jewelry, a picture frame collage to house family members, and her teepee.  I outfitted the teepee to better define that space and make it cozy.

A Big Sister Gets a Room to Grow

In transitioning into a little lady, this 2 year old needed a room that could grow with her. Full of energy and personality, this room had to satisfy tea time, sleep time and play time. While nothing chosen was too delicate, each investment piece isn’t something she’ll grow out of anytime soon! Hence, my number one advise for moms: buy pieces that will grow with them. Sure, they grow out of books, stuffed animals and play tables, but dressers, beds and nightstands are worth the investment. Therefore, this chic 2 year old has a room she’ll love now and for a long time to come.

Rooney’s Colorful Big Girl Bedroom

Welcome to Rooney’s room! This space has changed a lot over the years as we transitioned it from her nursery to a big girl room. Where there used to be a crib is now a school desk, and where there used to be a diaper changing station is now a twin-size bed. It really is crazy how time flies.
Her room is probably my favorite room in our entire house. Of course, I love the bright white walls, and it’s also got a lot of pops of color and personality. Her little brother, Finch, loves it too – we often find him sneaking in here to jump on the bed or find markers he’s not supposed to have.
The wicker headboard was mine growing up that we spray-painted pink. I remember tracing my fingers on it while trying to fall asleep at night, and now I see Rooney doing the same thing as I tuck her into bed. Combine that with her “reading” Love You Forever to us before bed and I’m usually fighting back tears.
The patches on the wall represent all of the states she has visited. I’m excited to get more patches as souvenirs when we take family trips. I kind of stretched when I got the D.C. one – Rooney has only been there in my tummy. On that trip, Eric and I purchased 12 dresser knobs for her IKEA dresser. They certainly weighed down my luggage on the flight back, but they are still one of my favorite parts of her room!
I have an R problem – I am fully aware. There are like 15 Rs in her room. I think it’s a cool-looking letter and a fun, easy way to personalize her room even though she has a unique name. I’ve gotten these all over – Anthropologie, Hobby Lobby, Etsy, Urban Outfitters, Target, Pottery Barn Kids, and The Land of Nod. There are so many more that I want. How many is too many? Should I just go ahead and fill the whole wall???
Rooney is an artist – she loves to paint, cut, glue, draw, color, write, take photos, etc. At one point, she was really into making crowns that she would wear as she performed songs for us (each crown had a different song, it was very elaborate). We knew she needed her own space to get crafty that wasn’t our kitchen table, so we got her this desk from our local Goodwill. She loves opening and closing the lid, of course! Hanging her own artwork on the walls using washi tape has been an easy way to decorate and also celebrate her artistry.
I’m not sure what’s next for her room. I have thought about painting it a light light light pink. I also think she’d love a wall calendar, as she is learning about different months and seasons. She is certainly getting her own ideas of what she wants her room to look like, so I want to try to step back and let her lead. More than anything, I want her to love being in this space.

Lea’s Sweet Dreams Big Girl Bedroom

Once Lea outgrew her crib, it was time for her “big girl” bedroom. I wanted the new look to work with some of the pieces that were in her room already. The bookcase and pink chest were two pieces I refurbished that were in her nursery so I definitely wanted to keep those. Who wants to reinvent the whole wheel again. Not this mama!!
I started with the quilt I found in the Pillowfort Collection at Target and worked off that with the colors. I absolutely love how all the colors came together. I painted the room Opal Essence from Benjamin Moore and it turned out to be such a pretty paint color. I wanted her room to still feel like a little girls room. She is 3 and I’m not ready at all to make her room feel too grown up yet. There is plenty of time for that. I still kept her newborn prints and incorporated those to make a gallery wall with a piece of art I’ve had for years and the paper butterflies really added a playful touch. I took her glider out and replaced it with a chair and ottoman I scored on Craigslist. The color and style couldn’t have been more perfect. The white peacock headboard adds a bit of whimsy to make it more of an eclectic look rather than too traditional and the paper flowers dressed it up so sweetl

Funky Fresh – Toddler / Big Girl Bedroom

This client had been pinning inspiration even before she moved into their new home and already had a pretty good idea of what color scheme and style of room she wanted to create for her daughter’s new bedroom. The overall look was modern, clean and preppy with lots layering of pattern.
The room had a fresh coat of paint on the walls and ceiling; a playful pendant lighting; an old dresser for refinishing; two twin mattresses stacked on the floor; and beautiful hardwood floors. And that was about it, the rest would be purchased on their lean $1,000 budget.

Pretty and Pink Big Girl Room

Our perfectly pretty big girl room is a sophisticated space created with dainty floral patterns and happy pops of color for two sweet sisters from Boston. We kept this design eclectic with a cheerful coral, fuchsia, & navy palette, a show stopping sun-kissed dresser, and a feature wall covered in gold leaf peonies. The glided wallpaper is self-adhesive and 100% removable, which was a fitting solution for our renter clients who were envisioning a decorative element that would transform the room and be a temporary alternative. The goal here was to design a stylish space for the girls to share while incorporating timeless furniture like the gorgeous Mid-Century Modern dresser, which is grown-up piece with a youthful tone. We decided to keep the bedding simple allowing the bold print and textures in the pillows to stand out. Lots of nifty storage solutions like the berry ottomans help organize toys and games while a wooden bookcase houses adorable boxes, books and things. Having moved from across country, we wanted to make the girls feel right at home by adding personal touches that included an inspirational quote and a custom map. More details, such as painted wall letters for their names and framed silhouettes, completed the design. After all, whichever coast the girls will call home, we were thrilled to have helped shape this one.

Girly and Floral Big Girl Room

I couldn’t find any bedding that I loved enough for my daughters room. I didn’t want to paint and I wanted to keep her black furniture from her nursery, along with some wall hangings and lamps so I needed to find something that incorporated all those colors. I found one option but it was unavailable so I decided if I can’t find what I want, I’m just going to make it. B had this Matilda Jane Platinum top that I fell in love with and it dawned on me that I should try and use that as inspiration for her room. So using her top inspiration I decorated a floral and girly room for my daughter. I added a lot of little personal touches and ended up doing a lot of DIY projects. Scanning the aisles of Michael’s can sometimes be a dangerous thing ;)

Big Girl Neverland Room!

I wanted to create a whimsical and fun big girl Neverland room for my little girl who just became a big sister.  I wanted her to be excited about the new space (and not jealous of the baby who would soon be in her old nursery) and help her embrace being a girl girl (toddler bed)!  The teepee, tons of accessible books, and fun dress-up clothes and toys around the room, there is endless fun and imagination ahead!

Chloe’s Mermaid Inspired Big Girl Room

When we started this project, the room was in a very common state – they had already made the big move from crib to big girl bed but most everything else in the room was leftover from nursery days.  Her changing table was the first thing to go and we knew we needed to upgrade the lighting, window treatments and seating in the room.  Overall her mom wanted a bright, fun room full of colorful accents and with just enough sassiness to satisfy her little girl’s hot pink and mermaid fantasies.
