My daughter is obsessed with horses. Thank goodness we live in the city and she isn’t begging us for a horse of her own, although I’m sort of surprised that hasn’t actually stopped her! This year for her birthday party, she chose her theme, and not surprisingly, it was horses. Below are some photos of just how I incorporated a horse theme into her party this year, along with my tips and vendors on how to create a horse themed birthday party of your own!
This is probably one of my favorite cake tables ever! For the backdrop, I purchased a plywood-backed wet floral foam shape in the shape of a horseshoe. I purchased a bunch of pink carnations and garden roses and filled the horseshoe with them. It was absolutely divine! I purchased small pink “winner” ribbons, and then I found plastic party jockey hats (but in the wrong colors of course). So have a spray paint party to make them match the party theme colors!
The girl and horse cake topper and cake decor were perfect, and Liz, Les Pop Sweets, matched the girl’s outfit to Ariella’s exact riding outfit she was wearing at her party!
I stayed with the shades of green and pink for these kids tables as well. I used horseshoe and floral themed plates along with matching cups and napkins. I placed a real metal horseshoe on each place setting as well! TIP: These metal horseshoes also work as great weights to weigh down your place settings if you are having an outdoor party!
For table centerpieces, a did a mix of small horse statues and also horse balloon bouquets. I handcrafted the horse statues. I found wood display blocks at my local craft store, then spray painted them hunter green to match the tablecloths. Then I purchased small horse figurines and added a pink or green matching saddle blanket made out of felt with a foam craft sticker number so that they looked like race horses and hot glued them to the wooden blocks.
For the mantel display, I handmade some banners. For the ribbon and horseshoe banner, I purchased plastic or wood horseshoes and spray painted them an antique bronze color. I also purchased pink, green and white rosette award ribbons and glued them onto twine, alternating with the horseshoes. Be careful not to use actual metal horseshoes for this banner as they will be too heavy and weigh it down. I also added foam craft stickers with her age and name to the large award rosette ribbons on either end of the banner. This was a super easy and inexpensive way to personalize them!
I loved how the horse balloon bouquets added a lot of flair and height to the kids’ tables!
On the buffet table, I used pink, green, and gold derby-themed food picks for fruits and veggies.
The silverware was bundled into the cutest packages from Mad Hatter Party Box!
For party favors, Ariella gave away adorable plush horses. I made thank you tags that I tied onto each horse, and I added one of the pink “winner” rosettes to the bridle.
My daughter had the best time at her horse derby themed birthday party! It really is a great party theme for all ages. Maybe you can have fun “horsing around” at your next birthday party.
