What do you all think about busy boards? While I understand the appeal to a kid, part of me wonders how smart it is to teach a curious tot how to master locks and latches of all sorts. Ha! So with that in mind—and a use at your own risk warning because your child might start masterminding all your cabinet baby locks and baby gates—let’s take a closer look at some of these nifty busy boards.
This is definitely something you can DIY on your own with a visit to the hardware store, always keeping your kiddo’s safety in mind, of course. The price will depend mainly on how many items you choose to include and how fancy the finishes are. If you are not the DIY type, you can shop Etsy for loads of different options. Be sure to check their age recommendations, but obviously this is the kind of toy that has to be highly supervised!

Melissa & Doug also makes this Locks & Latches puzzle that will let your little one in on the “lockbreaking” action at a more affordable price.
Not all busy toys have to be boards. They can come as activity walkers, tables, and, of course, there is the activity cube option as well!
What do you think? Would you get or make a busy board for your kiddo?
