You know one of the things we love most about nursery design? That it’s really a playground for ideas. We’ve said time and again that nursery inspiration can come from anywhere, and today Jen Hawkins, of Palms to Pines, shares her twin girls’ nursery and wait until you hear the fun things she was inspired by. Where did you pull inspiration for your nursery design?
The inspiration for our nursery design came from my long-time love of flamingos, Miami in the 80s, and some amazing wallpaper I found. Then Jesi Haack Design helped me put it all together into a coherent room!

What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
The part I enjoyed the most about the design process was the freedom I had to put whatever the heck I wanted in there! At the end of the day, this nursery was almost like my first gift to my girls (besides, ya know, their lives) and it was so exciting to make it the way I wanted, without rules.

What is your favorite part or detail in your nursery?
It’s hard to say what my favorite part about the nursery is. Is it lame to say that it’s the feeling I get when I walk into the room? Because it really is. It feels like a warm, peaceful place for our girls, and I love that. Our twin girls were born super early and spent three months in the hospital before we were able to bring them home. Every morning before I left to the hospital, I would go into their nursery to remind myself that there would be a day that they would come home and be there with me. I’d go in there to pray, or just to think about them, and it became a little haven of hope for me.

What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own nursery design project?
I would tell other parents to go with your heart! Don’t feel restricted by what you think a baby’s room “should” look like. You can pull inspiration from others, but in the end, make it your own!
