When we found out we were having a boy, my husband and I knew instantly what we wanted the nursery to look like.  One of his favorite places in the world is Africa, so we decided to go with a safari theme.

I love Restoration Hardware, so I wanted to make sure it had that same look of sophistication, but also be fun and playful.  I kept saying; it needs to be an Elegant Safari!  I wanted the room to have different shades of grey, but also wanted it to be warm.

The first thing we did was paint the walls.  The color is charcoal slate by Benjamin Moore. Then, because we had hardwood floors, we added a carpet binding to go under the zebra cowhide rug from Joss & Main.

I’ve wanted this exact crib for years, and it worked perfectly.  Both the crib and the changing table are large pieces of furniture and even look a little manly!  I painted the large armoire using two colors of Annie Sloan chalk paint (it use to be green) and then added a wax coat and sanded it.  We took out a shelf, and put in a rod so that it could serve as a small closet – and free up closet space which we really need.

When I first found out I was pregnant, my sister gave me a book called “the Most” by her friend and Nashville artist and author Anna McCoy.  I knew instantly, the animals in that book would make for unique and adorable prints!  I framed them with fun gold frames from World Market.

The glider was handmade by Rio Rockerz in Dallas using a very soft spotted print that reminds you of a giraffe: giving the chair texture, but also easily hiding stains.  Finally, I added a large floor lamp to offset the large furniture.

My husband and I had the BEST time doing this project together. There was so much love put into every detail – I hope it shows!
