Nursery Decor that’s Clear as Day

When I first started designing nurseries, acrylic and lucite materials were a hot commodity—they were very trendy and showing up everywhere. Now, so many years later, acrylic is still a fixture in modern design, and I love seeing how it is used in nursery furniture and decor. There’s something about that crystal clear finish that feels light and sleek. Here are some of my favorite finds for acrylic nursery decor.

One of the first companies to start using acrylic in cribs was Spot on Square. The Roh Crib features clear sides that make it feel open and airy instead of cage-like. Baby’s view of the room is not blocked by anything, giving him a sense of freedom as well.

Cambas Design & Co. is a little-known but fantastic furniture company that has created an acrylic changing table tray that will fit any dresser. Acrylic is a great choice for a changing table since it’s super easy to clean, and this tray will add a modern look to any existing dresser.

Talk about eye candy! These very high-end acrylic bassinets come from Nika Zupanc, a modern designer in Slovenia. I came across these beauties because a client of mine requested an acrylic bassinet—yes, I actually will be using this in a nursery design!

A functional side table is a necessity in a nursery, and I love the fun shape of this one from Modway Furniture—plus it has storage for books or a baby journal. The X shape formed by the legs means that it will be nearly impossible to tip over, and of course the durable acrylic can be easily cleaned.

Need some color on your clear side table? Acrylic doesn’t always have to be clear. It’s a great material no matter what hue you choose, so if you want something colorful, try a fun table lamp like these ones by Pablo Designs.

Acrylic and lucite always used to be equated with very modern design, but that’s not so much the case anymore. With a little searching, you can find amazing acrylic nursery decor in traditional shapes, making it a great choice for pretty much any style, and it’s gender-neutral too!
