Classic Baby Boy Nursery

Description

I have dreamed about my baby's nursery for many years, and when I finally fell pregnant, it all became reality. I wanted a classic and timeless baby boy nursery, with no commitment to a specific theme -  the type of nursery one would find in a storybook.

Design Inspiration

I spent many hours on the internet, especially Project Nursery's website, and Pinterest. As I opted for a classic look, I wanted to stick to soft colors, such as baby blue, white and light grey.

Decorating Style

I usually love modern interiors, however, I've always thought my nursery would be more classic.

Project Details

As we are currently renting, I did not want to go crazy on the walls, although I am a big fan of wall paper. We decided not to paint the walls, as the current colour would fit in perfectly with what I had in mind.

I bought most of the nursery furniture from Restoration Hardware Baby and Child, as we knew we would be shipping a container to South Africa. I completed the nursery with a few locally sourced and DIY items.

Millbrook iron crib in distressed white - RH baby&child

Haylan wide dresser, changing table and bookcase - RH baby&child

Vintage cars - Mr. Price Home

Chaise - Had it for a few years

Vintage wire cubby shelf - RH baby&child

White side table - Mr. Price Home (from South Africa, similar to IKEA)

Lamp, rug, mosquito net - IKEA

Distressed photo frames - Loads of Living (from South Africa)

Letter D monogram in frame - DIY project

DANIEL canvas - DIY project with my husband

Amazing grace canvas ("Genade onbeskryflik groot" in Afrikaans) - DIY project

Rocking horse - RH Baby & Child

Crib skirt, sheet, bumper, pillow - garment-dyed diamond quilted linen - RH Baby & Child

Monkey and Owl bookends - Indigo

"Boy" memory block - Sid Dickens

Pillow on chaise and inside crib - DIY project, fabric "toile delay"

Wooden heart bunny - Weylandts (from South Africa)

Favorite Items

The rocking horse fits in perfectly with the classical theme. I also love the tree branch clothing rack. I knew I wanted something similar in the nursery, however, I did not know where I would find a suitable tree branch. When we moved into our rental house, a lone branch waited for us on the deck, perfect for the nursery! It was so strange, as we didn't have any large trees nearby. I guess it was meant to be.

Advice

Start planning the nursery early to give yourself enough time to figure out your likes and dislikes, and to shop around for suitable items. Decide on a color scheme and theme, and stick to it.
