Is Orange the New Black?

It seems everyone I talk to is watching Orange is the New Black! This thoughtful yet tantalizing dramedy from Jenji Kohan is based on Piper Kerman’s memoirs of her time in a women’s prison, and it’s SO good! The writing is clever, funny and in some moments, very poignant.

There are many depictions of motherhood within the context, and it got me thinking. Sometimes design inspiration comes from an antique plate or a textile, but this time my inspiration came from Netflix. So, let me ask you, is orange the new black?

There’s certainly nothing criminal about a modern design classic like the Vitra Panton chair in orange, scaled down for junior.

Orange Panton Chair

Guilty as charged, I like this modern lamp! It’s like a stack of oranges and would add a great punctuation of juicy color to a grey or blue space.

Quatrefoil is a very big trend right now in nursery design—embrace it in orange! This Moroccan motif rug from our friends at Little Crown Interiors is super chic and would add a great visual rhythm to the nursery.

This mobile would add movement and a shower of orangey warmth to a nursery with its myriad of colored discs.

Let’s be real folks, what is a crib really? It’s basically a little baby jail. So keep your little inmate safe and stylish in the brand spankin’ new ducduc for Nod: Oslo Crib in bright orange. It converts to a toddler bed (with additional conversion kit) and is individually hand made in the USA using sustainably harvested hardwood. The tapered leg and stretcher base give this piece a very 1960s vibe—Don Draper would approve (one more television reference for the road).

I super duper love Orange is the New Black! Even if it’s fairly new, I can say it’s one of my most fave shows ever (and of all time), next to Brothers & Sisters!

Count me in! Big Brothers & Sisters fan here. I was really heartbroken when the show got cancelled. Next to my list of all-time faves is Gilmore Girls :)

Addictive series. I’m quite discriminating when it comes to what I watch, and I’d say this one makes the cut.
