The Sweetest Little Nursery Nook in a Master Bedroom

Picture this: You’re five months pregnant with baby #2, you sold your home in 72 hours (and you don’t have a new one yet), and you need to be moved out and moved in with family all in one super quick month. Add in a three-year-old to the mix, and you quickly realize those nursery plans you had been dreaming up might take a backseat for now. But not for too long because when you work for Project Nursery and see some of the best nursery inspiration every single day, you get jealous pretty quickly and need to think of Plan B ASAP.

So, what did I do? I got the idea to create a nursery nook right in our bedroom. After all, it’s the space where you spend most of those first few months anyway. Shared spaces can be hard, but I was determined to design a space for Baby H to come home to that was hers—a special space that we could all enjoy as a family.

I had been noticing the rise of the mini crib, which quickly led to my inspiration for this space. I fell in love with the Babyletto Hula Convertible Crib and the fact that it went from a mini bassinet to a full size crib gave me the option to use it now and transition it into the nursery when the time comes.

If you asked me ten years ago what I thought my little girl’s nursery would look like I would have said PINK. All. The. Pink. But I’ve learned a lot over the years about my personal style and knew I wanted to create a somewhat neutral space while adding touches of soft pinks, some wood tones and gold accents. I was able to capture those girly nursery dreams of mine in a more sophisticated way.

My biggest challenge was making sure I wasn’t overcrowding the space. We had a king size bed and two dressers at the time, but we knew we needed to make room for a crib, a glider and a changing table and dresser combo. And newborns might be tiny, but boy do they come with a lot of stuff.

All white furniture is my love language and it happened to work perfectly in this space because it kept the room feeling light and airy. When it came time to decide on a glider, we went with the Babyletto Toco Swivel Glider because of its sleek design. We loved the linen fabrication to keep with the neutral color palette.

For being such a temporary space, we ended up putting a bit more than we originally planned on the walls, but walls need love too, and I couldn’t bear to have blank walls staring back at me during all those daytime feedings.

This space was a labor of love that we finished just in the knick of time since someone decided to show up a few days earlier than scheduled. I am so happy I decided to take on the task of creating a nursery nook for us all to enjoy, and I can’t wait to transition these pieces into her own sweet nursery soon!
