Design Reveal: A Playroom to Match the Nursery

A few years ago, I designed a minimalist modern nursery for a client of mine in Santa Monica, CA. The nursery was full of fun modern touches, like acrylic, glossy white and pops of blue. The next year, my client moved into a new home, and we moved the whole nursery with them. In the new home, there was a room right next to the nursery that would be used as the playroom, so I was asked to design a playroom that would fit the modern style of the home, and flow with the design of the nursery.

We started with a fun wall treatment. We had modern mountain silhouettes painted around the room in chalkboard paint. We pulled the bright blue from the nursery and had the paint matched on the sides of the custom bench and added in more acrylic pieces, like the bookcase and guitar, to pull the space together.

I found some great modern magnet boards in hexagon shapes, and we created a pattern of them in different colors on the wall. A gorgeous custom bench was made to fit just right.

I wanted to make sure we had some fun storage options that also showcased colorful toys, so I chose some acrylic wall boxes in different colors, and displayed some of the family’s favorite items.

Lastly, my client really wanted an area for a play table, so we chose a piece and had it made using the same custom blue. I love the little play chairs, and they are just the right size!

I’m actually back at the same home working on a brand new project, so stay tuned!

I really wish there were more photos of the whole room, not just vignettes. It looks so fun-I want to see more! I love those mountains!
