22 Inspiring Twin Nurseries + Pro Tips on Designing It!

You’ve been dreaming of your perfect nursery for weeks, saving images on Pinterest, and measuring your space for the perfect furniture. Then you find out you’re having twins—surprise! What do you do now? How will it all fit in the space?

This is almost always how it goes with my clients who are having twins. I’ve been working with a fabulous couple in New York who had the aforementioned twins surprise, and they called me to help figure out how to rearrange the space and plan for two babies instead of one. It’s not easy and can be overwhelming, especially if you have a particularly small space. Here are some of my tips for designing a nursery for twins.

Modern Boho Geometric Nursery for Twins

Start early. Twins often come before their due date, so make sure to get the necessities a little earlier than planned, just in case.

Let’s face it, you’re going to need two cribs. However, you don’t necessarily need two cribs right away, and they don’t have to be full size. For my client in New York, we chose a smaller scale crib by Bloom Baby so they were able to fit them both into the small room. Just keep in mind that if you choose a non-standard size crib, you’ll also need to get the specific mattress to fit, as well as bedding.

If you have the space, opt for a larger glider since you may be nursing or rocking two babies at once. Some brands make a double-width glider, but those are very large, almost like a small love seat. It’s always best to try to sit in a few styles first to see what’s the most comfortable for you. Arm rests are also important for twins!

Katz Twin Nursery

Don’t skimp on the baby monitor. Most baby monitors are made to aim at a single crib and a single baby. The camera angle might not even be wide enough to see two cribs, even if they are close together. You might have to do a little research to find one that has a wide angle camera, or get a monitor with two cameras depending on how you arrange the room.
