Push Presents…Yea or Nay?

I’ll admit that until I joined the Project Nursery team, six years ago, I had never heard of push presents. In case you are as in the dark as I was, it is a present that the spouse gives to mom after the birth of their baby. You know, after all the pushing. Now, even though I know what they are now, I didn’t get a push present for my second baby, and I didn’t expect one for my third baby. In fact, I’m pretty sure my husband still has no idea what push presents are nor do I feel the need to inform him.

So I want to know, are push presents a thing amongst your crowd? Did you get a present when your baby was born or are you expecting one? I’m sure plenty of people will say baby is gift enough, but who are we to begrudge someone a present?

FTM and many of my friends have received gifts after their first baby, mainly jewelry of some sort. My “push present” came well before baby (Mother’s Day, actually), as it was something practical for the nursery, but with a high price tag. I had always wanted an Eero Saarinen Womb chair, so a push present was an excuse to splurge.

Push presents are not a thing among my real-life crowd. However, I convinced my hubby that the moms blogosphere said I needed a present and luckily his real-life female coworkers pushed for one too. My present was bigger than expected a 5 carat eternity RHR!!! Our baby’s birth stone is diamond, so the ring is very much related to being a mom. lol
